The problem with the 930/670 style filter on the 920 (and I assume 910) is the filter cover doesn't work. The 920 can be updated with the 930 covers, but they are getting hard to find.

Ahhh.......I figgered there must be an issue or it would be common knowledge........but still an option I guess...if someone had an extra 930 cover......am I right to assume that the 920 filter is the same as the 820 and 910??? For some reason I don't seem to have a 920 IPL here.......must be in other binders at the shop.

I am a regular in the general chainsaw board but I never looked in the trading post until I had a saw to pass along. Maybe the Jonsereds crowd doesn't look there either. What I have is a good Jonsereds 630 and I need some pricing help. I am thinking this is the place to find the experts. Can someone help me out with a price range? Thanks Don

Very nice looking for a 1983 saw, and just old enough to still be a Jonsereds! :D

Made at the Husky factory though, based on the 162SE.

I picked up this 621 last week. It was on Craigslist and only about 1/2 hour away (and I had enough cash in my pocket). It came with a Stihl 034 and an Echo 302 all in similar condition, but not running. Fresh gas and a quick peek in the carbs and all three are runners. I only wanted the Jonsereds but he would only sell as a package, so the other two will be sold off in the fall. The 621 will get the fuel system freshened up and I'll check the points. Oh yeah, and I'll dig a silver hand guard out of the parts bin.

Looks very nice :), and the plug cover still is in place. :surprised3:

Yeah, hit the W124 Series bad...from about '92 on. I have a '92 TE 4Matic and they kept the soy wiring harness away to the end of the first gen 4Matics-'93. Everything else that yr including I6, diesel and V-8 got that harness. I think they fixed the harness issue around '98 when they produced the W210...at least that's the date on the build code(or newer) you're suppose to look for.

A lot of issues "hit" the W124 series - or rather was built in....

Other than the eco-junk wiring harnesses, the W124 is arguably the finest modern series MB made. Safety and cash innovations were copied by other manufactures for over a decade. Certainly a better engineered car than the W210(bean counters were involved now and cutting corners) and more modern suspension than the W123(actually more modern everything). The transfer case in the first gen 4Matics had aluminum seal and piston failure which is corrected with a steel piston. Auto transmissions last on average 150,000 miles, but can be corrected with better style disc springs. Other than that, the gasser 124's are engineered for 400,000 miles and the diesels, as witnessed by taxicabs all over the world, can go a million miles. The 123's have the 'classic' MB look that everyone came to know, but the 124 is a much more modern car in every respect. In rusty salt-belt climates, you can get a host of problems like spring & perch failure...but I don't fault MB for that....keep it in the garage for the winter or don't have one there.

I found an air filter right away. I just haven't been back on the 'puter. It's either from a 910 or a 920 (the same?), and almost the only Jonny part I could find. I can see that I'd patched on the edge with a dab of something that's still holding. I cleaned it up and it should be good to go if it fits. I could send it right out to you if you want.

You're probably right that Jonsereds would have gone back to making good saw if left to their own devices.

We even had a Pioneer dealer here for a little while. Good guys but not good at real mechanicing, though they'd been to school for it. They could sure get parts anyway, and I'd figured out by then that I was better off doing my own repairs.

Yup, I dealt with my share of urine fir. The only quakies I had to cut were when I used to cut miles of right-of-way for log roads. The dang things will bounce like a football. The tree that gave me a direct hit was a big spruce. My stove-in hard hat made a good dog dish, and I used to be almost an inch taller. It didn't completely knock me out, but I flopped around and made snow angels for a little while.

Never ran any Pioneers even on loan. Sometimes for sh*ts & grins we'd trade saws for a day. Like I said before, most of us just put in minor parts and the big stuff was handled at a saw shop or we bought another saw(mostly we did that). I actually didn't do anything internal engine on a saw until about ten yrs ago. However, if we had been better off doing all our own repairs, I would have done that back then like you.

Lol..well, you're still around after the Spruce incident and that's a good thing. I had a conk take out my hard hat....survived them in the PNW only to have one knock me down in CO...go figure....lol. It would get so cold there in the winter, that the smaller butt trees would freeze all the way through....instead of pivoting on the hinge wood, they'd just snap and jump...killer stuff there.

I'll take whatever you have for a 910/920 air filter. I used to repair the nylon mesh on air filters with clear nail polish....worked like a charm....still have a 2100 filter with a repair like that...35+ yrs and going.

I can trade you parts or PayPal for the air filter.

Was wondering if anyone had a manual for a 2071? Building 2 of them would like a manual. Already checked on beg for manuals thread no luck just parts ipl

IPL here:http://www.jonsered.ws/2071.pdf

If you're wanting a SM, ebay or google.....unless you can find a member who has one and will scan. Ask at the J'red thread on the 'other' site too.

Kevin

No, you buy some cheap Japanese product or rust out a Subaru for the winters.....lol

Kevin

You can't win here. They salt the blacktop in the winter and spray chloride on the dirt roads in the summer. It doesn't pay to have anything nice, so I just run pre-'95 Chevy pickups.

I'd be glad to just send you the air filter - not a problem.

I first got a Pioneer after I'd been beat in competitions by a guy from Arizona who had a P51. I figured the SOB must have been cheating somehow. I hated him. He was actually a great guy , and we became good buddies. We soon didn't care which of us would win the all-around, but I'm sure everyone else hated us! I even ran my five-cube Pioneer in the six-cube-and-up class and did just fine. Didn't need my 2100 anymore for work or for racing.

Chloride to keep the dust down? What happened to soy oil? Geez, sounds like a car nightmare with the lower you car is, the worse it is.

Lol..so was he cheating? I never got the bug to do any saw competition...especially when I heard they were dropping one of two rings for less friction etc. The 2100/2101's went through gas like crazy anyway, porting would have been far worse. We did muffler mods and plugged the gov...that's it.

I'll PM you about the air filter...thanks!!

Same here except we haven't a lot of dirt roads around this area.....If you have something nice and want to keep it...it has to be put away for the winter. I have one friend that won't even take his older Caddy out on wet roads......so many newer cars and trucks get junked out but have great drive trains. In late yrs all the makers have been trying to make vehicles lighter to meet emissions. Now the frames give up before the body metal on half and three quarter ton trucks. 10-12 years is all you're gonna get out of a new truck if you use it year round....150-160,000 miles run like a top...burn no oil......just rusted away....clear coat lasts longer than the frames...poor.....

I have to laugh when I see 84 month car loans advertised. When you get your car payed off, it's rusted out. Here's a pic for you Benz guys. It is a car that my Cousin had back in the '80's. It's up in the pasture now.

This is my old '88. It was still running great at 295,000 miles. I saved a few good pieces for future use.
