i started going through a jonsered 625 ll i've had for awhile, i swear it ran when i got it. but i can't find a spark now. checked all wires for continuity got a fresh plug, cleaned the contact surfaces on the crankcase and coil, re-set the air gap, but still no spark even when run up with my cordless drill.
are there other husky coils that will work ? i saw somewhere a husky 61 coil would work. what about the china coils i see on ebay ? anyone have experience with them? any help appreciated.

Try disconnecting the kill switch.....may not be your problem but worth checking....they do go bad. Many saws take that coil....like the Husky 50 series for example.....only differences are usually in the length of the sparkplug wire....folks seem to be having OK luck with the far eastern coils.......I prefer the Ducati coils like came on some 625/630/670......but what ever makes spark will do.

thanks cantdog, i did check with the switch disconnected, still no spark. tested the switch too, which is good.
forgot to mention that , with the wire off the switch, i got continuity when i tested the wire to ground. that sound like an internal short now that i think about it. what do you think ?
do you have a coil that will work on my saw ?
thanks

Pull the wire off at the coil to be sure the insulation on the wire isn't damaged and grounding out the coil.

Yes and check the connection at the sparkplug as well...sometimes the clip to wire connection is lost...generally from someone yanking on wire wire rather than the plug boot.

Thanks for all the tips. Still no spark.
Still have a ground between the spade connector on the coil and ground ? Short inside ?
One good thing, I found that the impulse nipple had come out of the cylinder. A little jb weld fixed that. I feel a little better. Off to the bay for a coil.

A seller online states, " You are bidding on a RARE, hard to find jonsered 2036 chainsaw for parts only. "

Is a 2036 really that rare and hard to find?

No. The 2040 is a little harder to find and seems to bring more money (same chassis, more cc). My neighbor gave me one and I got it running, but it felt much more like a "wild thing" than a Jonsered.

Anybody know the initial carb setting for a 525? Starts and idles great revs and then bogs!
The docs that were kindly sent to me read 1 turn out for both H & L and although it will start it won't run at this setting. I'm afraid that I will wear out the new piston trying to get it tuned! I've been warned about these saws.

Thanks,

Lee

I usually start at 1 turn out for the H and 1-1/2 turns out for the L. If I've never had the saw running before I like to set the idle up just so it doesn't cause a stalling problem. Once it starts and is idling too fast back it down before you touch the other adjustments.

If it's a Tilly...it's one turn out on H and 1 1/2 turn out on L to start. And if the saw is 100% and you're using good oil mix, I wind up working with 3/4 out on H and 1 1/4 turn out on L. If you can't get it to run right in that range, you've got a problem. Suggest thorough cleaning of the carb and if that doesn't do it, then do a pressure and vacuum test. and suspect a leak like in crank seals.

I've got a big Husky 2100 down because I can't tune it in....just haven't got the time to mess with it yet.

help again.

I'm no authority and I don't have a 625 IPL but two brake bands seem to listed for the 625 and 630

PN 503735501 which apparently look like this which would be the later version.

The earlier one looks like this pic, See attached 630 IPL for a pic of the assembly on an early 630.

I would wait for Robin or Eric to come along and verify or give the correct answer.

This may give you a head start.

I believe both are unique to Jonsered.
