Hang onto your hats folks...this will probably be a wild ride before this auction closes!!!!!!

Vintage Jonsered XB Chainsaw | eBay

IIRC that's a member here. Uses his sister's ebay account for selling stuff............and that's why the seller's ID is "Toodlepoodle".:hmm3grin2orange:

It has the wrong starter handle (looks to be a plastic Husky handle). Because of that it's not worth much.:jester:

All kidding aside, that's a sweet looking old saw. I'm not a Jonsered/Jonsereds nut, but if I was I'd be all over that auction.:msp_thumbup:

As I was looking at the saw and looked at the sellers name, I was thinking that it was a little hard to believe that a saw kept that nice wasn't owned by someone on here.....but.... the name seemed dissconnected from the saw!!

Fortunately for those that love me most, I am funds limited...but I am sure there will be many bidders over the next nine days....that gives folks a lot of time to find resources...and rationalize the spending of such....

Are the diffearnces major and is one considered much better than the other?
Bob

AS far as I know there was never a 51E.....The 51 is pretty much an early version of the 52 and 52E. All three being pro built saws...

The 49 Semi Pro was a lighter, less expensive/complicated version of a 51 or 52. The changes made to create the 49SP were; an open port, single ring P&C and a very cheap (to build) points ign system ( though totally adequate), the plastic lower trigger handle stirrup etc. and they were the only totally Red Jonsereds produced saw...ever.

Many changes used in the 49sp went on to used and upgraded in the two versions of the 70E.

It's funny that the "51E" came up. When I was 14 or 15 I worked for the town cemetary and we had an old Jonsereds that they always called the "51E". Of course the decal was missing. When I got to collecting the old Jreds, I looked and looked and looked for a "51E". Never found one. So, I don't know whether the first Jonsereds I ran was a 51, 52, 52E, or a 521E, and probably never will.

Well, I mistyped. Should have said 52E.

So where does the 50 fit in, then? They built a 451e, 49sp, 50, 51, 52e, and 521e. Was that the line up? When I first bought a 521ev, I was thinking that it would be the little brother to the 621, but they were nothing alike. I have some of the development in my mind from the 625/630/670 saws and the 910/920/930 series, but am a little fuzzy on the smaller, older saws.

I believe the time line would be something like 50, 51, 52, 49SP, 52E, 521EV 451EV....for these saws, with some overlap of models.

I know when I bought my 49SP new in 1978 they also had 52s and 52Es on the shelf. As explained to me at the time by the sales guy...all three were 49CC just with different options....he did not mention the fact that the 52 and 52E were cosed port pro saws and the 49 was not...he probably didn't even know the difference...just knew there was a sixty dollar spread in price between the three...As I remember the 49SP was $249.95....the 52 was $279.00...the 52E was $310.00 and the 621 was(which is the saw I really, really, really wanted) $350.00......but I cheeped out...really didn't have any more to spend at that time of life...LOLOL!! The funny thing is I used that saw all day yesterday....all ported and rebuilt...sporting it's new 18" Sugi Hara.......still puts a grin on my face..and wood in the pile.....

Just picked up my first 521EV.......As you said nothing at all like the 621. 521EV is the most advanced of the 52E series. It uses the 52 pto side case half, all handles, P&C, carb, muffler covers. However the flywheel side case half and recoil cover and pulley, ign system, coil, alternator and flywheel are the only model to have these. These also came stock with the first generation chainbrake and 2 heat range electrically heated handles. They were the Cadillac of the 52 series...totally decked out...

The 50 came first in the early 70's. It had a silver top and there were two versions. Early one's were 45cc and later one's were 49cc. The 50 was replaced by the 51. Not sure the exact year, but the only only saws in the line-up were the 621, 80 and 111 (no "S"). The 51 was the first black top and the first to have the early anti-kickback handle. I assume the 51 was replaced by the 52 and or 52E at some point and the 49SP was brought in as a lower priced option. The 45E and 451E were both later saws as well, but were expensive.

Well Eric you spurred me to action!! You asked in another thread if I had gotten that 451EV running yet...I said no...but then got to thinking.....looked it over at the shop yesterday.....last night I ordered a ring and carb kit for it..I think that's all it needs.....(and the NOS heater switch) Thanks for the nudge!!

I have an old price list at the shop that spike sent me...I believe it has the 451E/EV and 70E and 910e/EV listed. Ill bring it home and post some prices just for kicks...

This is a 621 that I've been working on. P/C are in great shape. Rebuilt the carb and sorted out the ignition and chainbrake kill switch wiring. starts, revs, and cuts fine. Idle speed changes when the saw is tilted. Fuel lines look fine, and would be a pain in the ass to change because of the crimped on clamps (WTF were they thingking?). I'm thinking crank seals. Can't get the video to embed for some reason....:msp_thumbdn:
