I'm working on next years wood, not this falls wood, just figured I'd be much further along.
I'm lucky enough that the forks on the tractor slide close enough together to do that with the real big logs.J, pulled this from another board Im on. Good depiction of what I was going after in regard to the tong suggestion.
You could even split it while the tongs hold it so the halves don't hit the ground.

Do those tailgate unloaders work?
I use tongs all the time, but usually on long logs. For rounds I don't want to pick up by hand, I roll a few into the tractor bucket and position it next to the splitter table, then just roll them on.J, pulled this from another board Im on.
