I wanted to thank all who gave info and advice on choosing a new saw. I bought a 7900 and got it last night. I'm working today but plan on using it tomorow. My girlfriend can't understand how someone can sleep through a good chick flick but get all excited about a new saw. I keep telling her of the importance of having enough saw(s) and the importance of keeping the tool gods happy. Don't worry, I'm planning a romantic evening with the two of us and the saw to change her views.

Wow you are in for trouble.

One at the time.... Never more than one at the time. Do not think for a minute the Two girls will be nice too each other, Believe me, claws and faces you never thought was humanly possible, Terrible sounds that mostly sounds like: You and your saw! One is plenty! Do you really need over a hundred, another strange sound is when one of them is neglected. That sound is hard too print even. I will try..... D I V O R S E....... Ok.
That went well, you see, it is not understandable. These sounds are terrible. Never mix the two.

Is it a smoothie ...

Mind if I ask ... (as I am now deciding on 7300 v 440 v 372) ... how your new 7900 compares vibration wise ... in the cut and out.

Of course it's totally subjective, but do your arms feel the about same, vibration wise, as with the equivalent Stihls or Huskies, say after a tank of gas when you're gettin' down to business ... (juzz like sex, I'm starting to think that the smoothers saws, are the better saws ... I'm happy to let the young uns' have all the pop noise and powah - I'll take the smoothie ... )

mange you a real cad bud.. my mind was really able to imagine the sounds you described..i try to be game formost anything,,but id shy away from that..lol
mans gotta know his limitations..

I haven't had a chance to use it so I can't compare vibrations. It seems to have a lot of absorbtion judging by the springs in the handle. That's another good point to mention to the GF.

Don't feel bad MOE, my girlfriend is the same way. I bought a MS 440 just before Christmas and you should have seen the look on her face when it arrived

I think we missed a good opportunity to show our love and get a chainsaw. They would have made great christmas gifts.

There is a difference in feel between Husky and Dolmar but both have excellent Antivibe. The 7300 in the same size as the 7900-I'd go 7900.

Moe, However favorably impressed you may be when you first run the 7900 it willtypically improve with break-in. You'll notice it cutting faster on about the third tank of fuel. About the fifteenth tank or so it will be silky smooth and lightening quick.

It may take 20 tanks before you can run it without giggling. I was a Stihl man to the core before my 7900 opened my eyes to other possibilities. I still have a fair amout of Stihl's in the quiver but am no longer blindly loyal to one brand.

Dolmar Tech Manager reports FW handle to be available

full wrap for this series will be a real nice option --

now Dolmar needs to get smart and not follow the lead of stihl and husky, and by national policy limit sale of FW handles to west coast wholesale distributors only -- contrary to Stihl policy (I had wanted a 440 with full wrap on the east coast and finally gave up - $150 in parts to change over), east coast trees don't always have escape routes like the Stihl picture books imagine for flush handles, and plunging large trees residential forests is just plain scary as hell with all the buried fence posts, nails, Railroad Spikes (Yest, railroad spikes) and etc.

hey moe. Glad to hear you got your new saw. be sure to let us all know what you think of it after running it for a while. one thing about the dolmars is they are a bit tight when you first get them. possibly even more so then alot of other saws. they take a bit of running to loosen up. maybe ten tanks or more. i dont remember exactly how much it was on mine but i remember feeling it make gains with every tank . and being a bit suprised it took as long as it did to make its gains. however once it was up to its full potential i couldent have been happier. and i assume we will be hearing the same report from you. Take care and have fun
