The Lafont splitter sure looks to be a well built splitter.
Splitter has served us well. In the 80's when there was a good market for firewood around here it split 2-3 grapple truck loads a wood a week (14-21 cords). The main beam has worn down 3/8 inch or so and the pusher plate in bend back on corners and its 1" thick. The splitter lives hooked to a 1947 ford 8n tractor. They dont make things like they use to.

I did recently buy a Built Rite 18scp-hp processor, but the lafont will still be doing the crooked and big wood.

La Font log splitter

A catolog of parts? I have the the manuals that came with splitter in 1978. Unfortunitly the lafont part numbers are useless since there out of business. I would be very interested in seeing this. Ive been keeping track of the parts I bought so I have part #'s to refference in future. The worst was the link that hold handle to valve. I made my own for a year before I got the right one. I did order 12 of them since they last about a year or so (30+/-cords)

I also have that same useless manual. i've also been making my own link that holds handle to value. Can you let me know part number and who to call.

That linkage assembly looks similar to the one on my splitter. Mine is made by energy mfg. Google it. BTW that is a nice splitter.

Thanks. I did look at the link you decribed. They refer to it a a chain link. Ive tried every size master link and there close but not right. The main problem is that the valve is held in neutral by the ram when it returns. Ive bent 1/4 round stock to shape but it only lasted 2-3 hours of use. Also the link needs to be the weak part that breaks so the spool in valve doesn't break.

Looking for help with the LaFont valve

I inherited a LaFont SS400 from my Dad a few years back. The original valve went to crap, so it was replaced with a standard detent valve. I'm hoping someone knows the model valve I can order to put this bad boy back to original and split some wood in a hurry. Mine has the adjustable wedge on the back of it, currently only capable of 4 way splitting, but I'm ording custom plates to make it a 6 way adjustable wedge, all hydraulic.

The valve for the main cylinder would be the last ticket to make this thing sing....please help - as the entire original valve, handle, etc is lost!
