I have read here about the importance of applying Loctite 242 as suggested (where needed) in the 044 service manual. What about the Loctite 270 and 648 that is also suggested (in the service manual) for the other areas? Loctite 242 seems easy to come by, but I'm not sure where to get the 270 and 648.

I can buy 242 and 270 at Lowes. I've never heard of 648 but it looks like it's high temp stuff(did an internet search). It looks like if you search for loctite 648 you can find a couple places to buy it online. Anyone know where to get it locally or if you need it? Evan

I was in Lowes today and saw the 242, and 271...not sure if it's different from the 270. I guess I can look it up on the Loctite website.

I'm hoping Andy (Lakeside) will have some info...

Whoops, I must've seen the 271 then. I knew it was 27 something. Sorry, Evan

Lakeside hasn't been around much today, maybe he'll get back and help us out or maybe someone else can help ;) (thats a prompt for you other guys to jump in with advice). Evan

272 and 271 is basicaly the same thing.. same with 241 and 242. The "2" version is higher temp, I think.. .

I don't bother with the 648 on the 044/440. It's a gap filling "retainer type" - nice stuff..

I have 222, 242, 271, 272, 648 and a handful of others.. Most you can find out about on the Loctite web site. Type Loctite + "type number" into google - and then to the loctite webside.

Around here the specialty adhesive/lube places stock the full range of loctites.

+1 :). I did get a lead on where to find all 3...but they're not cheap! Not sure if it's allowed to post the link to the website. I'm gonna have a look at ebay.

Yeah it's like $5 for one of those small tubes at lowes. It's expensive for how little you get. Evan
