I want to add a new saw to my stable of one.. (Dolmar 112)
Interested in Dolmar 7300, husky570 and jonsered 2171. I'm looking for feedback on reliability and longevity(assuming proper care and feeding)
Any well-reasoned opinions are gratefully welcomed!!!!

To touch briefly on things I've read on these saws:

The Dolmar 7300 is built on the same chassis as the 7900, (If I recall correctly) so in a word, you are buying the weight of the big saw but not the power. Take the step to the big saw and enjoy all the power you will ever want or need.

If you are looking for a low end 70cc saw, perhaps something smaller and lighter would be better suited for you...

I don't know if much has been said about the Husqy 570, other than its a little fat in the ass, but over all it runs good. I also believe its built on the same chassis as the 575, at least it specs at the same weight. You can spend another $90 for a half more horsepower... but thats up to you and maybe someone can shed some more light on how those two models stack up.

I think the Jonsered 2171 is the equivilent of the Husqy 372xp... if that is the case, its an awesome saw. It would produce around the same HP of the Husqy 575 and save you a few pounds. It would out perform the Husqy 570 and save you a few pounds. The Dolmar 7900 would smack all the aformentioned saws down and fell 5 trees with a backwards chain....

Okay, so some stuff I made up, but thats what I've kinda put together from reading some threads. maybe an expert will come lay down some real knowledge here shortly.

thanx for your replies. Checked out the threads in this site. Went to check out the Stihl 361 and 440. First of all the prices were on the moon, and the dealer gave me a recitation of Stihl starting procedures that sounded exactly like the "Seargent" talking to Arlo Guthrie in that "Alice's Restaurant" song. Having short money and even less military bearing, the Stihl is out of contention.

I checked out the H570 and J2171 today at lunchtime. No time and too gussied-up for a test drive but it was informative nonetheless. Dealer says he'd pick the 2171 over 570 and 575 any day, (weight ratio; power; and interestingly enough, reliability..) Red and Orange are from the same factory right????? But that's what his clientelle is telling him. No reason to doubt him...he knows what he sells. He wants $620 for either 570 or 2171 w/ 20" factory bar. Sounds a little high.

I didn't think that I wanted as much saw as Dolmar 7900, but the power to weight ratio is awesome, and if I'm in for a penny, I may as well be in for a pound. Talking to the two Dolmar dealers in my area this week in hopes of a competitive quote!!! Keepin' the fingers crossed.... I'll let ya know and I promise to be brief!

His clientelle? That's you.

And yeah, the 2171 being the equivalent of the 372 smoke checks the 570 and 575.

If you're doing the 7900, you'll be well off with it...especially with dealers in the area.

You'll be a happy camper with the 7900. I don't know anyone who has been disappointed with its price-to-performance-to-weight-to-usability ratio!

I believe you were pretty close to the truth, but even the 7300 surely will outcut all the competition in the 70-75 cc class.......:biggrinbounce2:

Man, I just keep hearing nuthin' but absolutely rave reviews for the Dolmar
7900. I have to believe that the 7300 and 6400 for that matter are just as
good, as they share 99% of the DNA.

Interestingly enough, I have yet to be taken to task for my de-selection of Stihls. I am on to something??? Or am I just preachin' to the choir??? Set me straight if I'm off the mark here.
Thanx again for all the input.

Well, I did the deed!!! Bought the Dolmar 7900 for WAY LESS than the Jred 2171. Gonna pick it up next week. Very pleased in deed!!! Its probably a bit more saw than I need, but doesnt weigh any more or loom any larger than a 6400, 7300 or 2171..... so kind of a NO-BRAINER

Thanx for all the capable assistance. Be back next week with the "4-1-1" on the new addition.

congrats on the 7900 you will like it. To answer your earlier question on the 7300 it is a very impressive saw as well. Does not get the attention of the 7900 but will hold it's own in it's range.
