I’m looking for a sub-10lb. / 2hp-2.5hp saw to replace the old Husky 41 that I have now. As much as I like my other saws, it seems it’s this little Husky that I use more than anything else.

I have a Jonsered 2054 with an 18” bar and a Jonsered 525 with a 20”, but since getting the new 2054 I can really notice the vibration from the 41 compared to the Reds.

I only need it to turn a 16” bar.

I’d really like to stick with Jonsered but they don’t make a sub-10lb. saw

The Husky 339XP fits the criteria (but it’s ugly!)

A Stihl 180 C-B fits also fits but I’ve never owned one.

How ‘bout a Dolmar PS-401? I know nothing about these saws but there’s a dealer not too far from me.

Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

MS 180........I got one named "Little Bubba" I use it for smaller limbing and anything 10" or smaller :rockn: Anything bigger has to answer to "Bad Brutus" my MS 361   MS 180....Great little saw for the money! >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Talon

180 is a good saw, maybe look at the MS210 with 16 inch bar and it is 2hp.
Welcome and good luck on your tough decision.

Why not try the Dolmar 401? It is a magnesium case pro-grade saw, whereas the Stihl MS180 is a plastic bodied saw of markedly less displacement. The 180 is a perfectly good saw, too, but the Dolmar is definitely more saw.

The Husqvarna is a funny looking thing, but if you can get over the looks it would be a great choice.

I have a Stihl 021 that I love. I bought it with a 16 inch bar. I just switched to a 14 inch bar and like it even better now. I don't know anything about the little Dolmar but if they're anywhere as good as people say the 5100's are they gotta be pretty good!

Screw all the intermediate models... Just get an MS200. Used mine a bunch yesterday - love that little thing!

yeah, screw it and get the 200 rear handle. Mine is one tough mother:rock:

I have a couple of the Husky 336. They are great saws. I'd recommend them in a second. I'd say a bit faster than the MS200.
The 339 is a bit bigger, so I'd guess they even have a bigger speed advantage over the MS200, but I haven't run one. It will likely be the next saw purchase though.
The nice thing about this saw size is it totally eliminates the need for a 50cc saw. Anything it can't handle, I go straight to the 70cc saw and finish the job. And a small rear handled saw is so nice to use for those one or two cut situations, like next to the chipper, or cutting small trees and bushes.
They start and run so easy, and you can't believe the power these things generate. They aren't like the little Echos or even mid-sized Poulans, they scream! They have instant throttle response. If you've run the MS220T, you get an idea of what I mean, only they are a bit smoother.
As for being ugly, I'm not putting on a fashion show. If it works well, who cares?

I'm wonderin...how does the MS200 cut compared to an 025? I don't use my 025 on anything over 8"-10" or I grab the 361 which is twice as fast 10" and up.

So for limbing and chopping up to 10" max...more likely 8" max...what's the comparison of MS200 and 025?

What bars are you guys runnin on your MS200's? 14's or 16's?

I've seen the 339XP on Husky's website, but can't find a price on it anywhere. Does anyone have it in stock yet, and if so, how much are they likely to go for (street price)?

339xp is around 500e around here, so probaply around 300 dollars over there...

401

I really like my 401. Really wakes up with a muffler mod. Alway runs. You could probably buy the 401, have it Neigerized, spend less money, and out run the little Stihls and Huskies.
