Ok, I missed my old 272's so much, CAD started to take over and I needed to find me a new saw. 70CC or bigger and must be orange! :rock:. After a big debacle, I found what looks to be a very clean 372xp. The saw is en-route. I think I got a winner but you never know till your hands get on it! Upon arrival I will do a thorough inspection to see what we got. Will post plenty of pics! This is a play saw but will be used at work when I need it.

So the BIG question, What makes the 372 run like a raped ape and be reliable ? I can do anything but not really sure what I should do. This is where the help comes in.

Gut muffler and weld in a big fat exhaust pipe ?
Remove base gasket? What do I re-seal it with? Does it make a big difference and is it worth it?
Porting- Where and how much should I grind ??
Anything need to get done to the carb other then adjustments ??
What else can and should I do ??

I need to find a place that sells Tsumura/ Total Super Bars, Anyone know?
Also would like to find a full wrap handle bar if someone has one laying around..
And the large felling dogs, I need those too !!
One more thing.. The high top air filter cover.. I'm gonna need that too ! :poke:

The first thing id do is get a degree wheel and use it a little.....you'll have better results in the end, and you'll know where your at. :cheers:
 
Search through the 372 porting threads and read all you can. Get a degree wheel and mount it up and then start grinding. I like adding a deflector on the right side of the mufflers for a muffler mod. Losing the base gasket will add some compression. Any fuel resistant sealer will work.

Spike sells the total bars up in NY so hit him up by pm and he should be able to help you out with the bar. A full wrap can be found in the classifieds I'm pretty sure. There was one or more on there a week or so ago. The hd cover can be bought through spike or baileys. Large felling dogs can be got from a husky dealer or you can get pro safety 4 points from baileys.
 
Give it a good looking over when you get it, and get some run time on it. I think they are pretty impressive stock. If you do decide to port it, there is a LOT of good info on here for the 372.
Spike should be able to take care of the bar for you, as well as the spikes and wrap. As previously mentioned, you may be able to find a wrap for a decent price here on the boards.
I think you will be very impressed from the get go with the 372. I LOVE mine!
 
Leave the base gasket and cut the head off, you can adjust squish that way along with the combustion chamber size to 2cc. Next cut the intake horn back and weld a block on to adapt a big ole HL to it. Hog the exhaust out and add extra transfer ports lower the intake. That should make it scream!
 
How can you not love a 372xp.I am going to do some more work on mine latter but for now I modded the muffler and put the big dawgs on it.I am really liking this muffler mod.

Thanks for the replys. The purpose of this thread is to document the progress of what I do over time. I know there is a ton of reading but sometimes I don't have the time to sit for a few hours and read. Just thought I would get some ideas while I wait for the saw to arrive.

I will look around for a wheel, sounds like a must have.
I'm sure I will be impressed with it stock but that'll last 15 minutes....

How can someone not be excited with a 70cc saw on the way!! :hmm3grin2orange:

How does that muff mod hold up with cutting firewood? Seems as though to me it would catch the bark on fire or at least close to it? I can see where cutting cookies wouldn't affect anything but have wondered how that front holed MM holds up with cutting firewood - especially some bigger stuff where you in it longer.
 
It works pretty good and doesn't really set the wood on fire but will deflect a lot of heat back at your hands.
 
I will be trying it out for the first time this weekend.I did put the big dawgs on it to get some more room between the wood and the muffler.I just finished splitting up the 10 cord of red oak I did last fall with my ported NE346 and 7900 which I no longer have.

Compression feels good, prolly as advertised around 165.. I am happy with it so far. It has a new aftermarket clutch cover. Chain brake works and is tight. Perhaps the Guru's can point things out that I don't know.. Like why would the number be scratched out? Im going to take it outside and fire it up in a little while. Then tomorrow I will take it to my shop for a more thorough inspection and to test it out..

PS.. Baileys is the ****! They have the large dog kit on closeout for 16 bucks so I got them and new rims. They had them on my door in 1 day !!

I agree that it's weird that model number was scratched off the nameplate. Hope it's not a 365 with a 372 sticker on the starter cover. Maybe someone put a bigger jug on it or something.
