How does that muff mod hold up with cutting firewood? Seems as though to me it would catch the bark on fire or at least close to it? I can see where cutting cookies wouldn't affect anything but have wondered how that front holed MM holds up with cutting firewood - especially some bigger stuff where you in it longer.

I've mm'd my 272 the same way . Sometimes I smell the bark burning/see charring , but , the damn thing cuts so fast that I hav'nt caught anything on fire yet

Interesting...

When I googled the 968274401 number.. the 371K cutoff saw came up.. Then I found this picture...If you blow it up.. the serial # is close...lol
My My.. Looks like we have a 371K conversion... :chainsaw: LOL Now what...LOL

I hope it doesn't have the cutoff saw cylinder. From what I understand, they're ported way differently for different powerbands, with the cutoff saw being much lower. A quick Google search does look like it's a 372 cylinder though. My only other concern would be the bearings on a concrete saw.

Yea.. I believe the ignition is also different. I don't think I'm keeping this one either !! Strike Two...

Seller tells me the case was replaced and the tag means nothing. The saw is a 372XPW inside..:msp_ohmy:
Offered a full refund plus my return shipping and he'll stand behind it for 6 months...

Maybe I'll just keep this one...

this is the 372 i got off fleabay a couple of months ago,, i added the 3/4" to it

sounds like he is real sure about it,,most won't do that

I'm betting its not a original 372, it has the old style non translucent tank on it like my 371 has, I thought all 372 had translucent tanks? Measure the bore dia.

Ok, it does have the big bore but it wont run right, idles high and just bogs out when tryed to rev..I tried adjusting and nothing....the piston and cylinder do look great and it has 145 psi comp. I don't know if I should keep it..

I cant be sure, but I believe you just bought yourself my old 371 that I sold on fleabay three months ago. Like I said, I cant be sure, but it looks identical including the old faded plastic pieces, the aftermarket clutch cover, etc. But I am not positive.

I took it in on trade six months ago, and noted the high idle and after a vacumn tested noted the air leaks at both sides of the crank bearings. Way it stands now it is burning far to lean with the air leaks to be run without first reparing. Idles way to high, chain constantly wanting to creep.Parked it on the shelf along with the other project saws until three months ago when I ran across a 3120. Been needing one for the occasional 50 inch plus oaks that have recently been showing up more and more across my path. Sold that saw and two others and bought this 3120 project which is currently being reworked on the bench as we speak.

When I sold that saw it had the old stickers on it that said, "371" but they are easily replaced. It did not have that big scratch through the ID plate however it did have the upper right hand portion of the tag deformed. I suspect that the guy who sold you that saw simply put some new stickers on it and scratched out the 371 on the tag. Those stickers on your saw look far to fresh.
I could be wrong, but I would be willing to bet a few bucks on it that you got my old saw.

I did find the idle screw was screwed in a bit.. but I need to replace a part on the starter rewind that broke. Do you happen to have any pictures of your 371 ?? And this does have the 75cc p/c so it has been worked on. I asked the seller if he vac/pressure tested the case and he states he did and it holds 12 pounds and that's what a 372 should be around...

I will dig around when I get home, I am pretty sure I still got the pics that I used when I put it up for auction. And here is another thing that just struck me. On the top cover under the handle, there should be another sticker/tag with the serial number on it, and it was gone when I got the saw. Should be a white sticker along the yellow one that lets you know a saw is dangerous blah blah blah.On your saw, it appears that it is gone as well. Now, I am sure there are a number of saws running around with that sticker being gone, but still it kinda struck me.

I wish I knew more about the history of that saw to tell you, but like I said it was simply trading stock for me, wasnt meant to be a keeper. Never looked the thing over real well until I checked out the running condition of it, and also when taking pics for the auction.

Like I said, I could be barking up the wrong tree here, might very well be a different saw. But that scratched off ID plate, serial number not matching a 372, missing white sticker, and dented up ID tag smells weird to me.

As for trusting that seller and his vacuum test, I would test it yourself before running it. After 45 days you are out of luck with PayPal, regardless of his "six months guarantee"

Alright.. I'm gonna keep it. It's clean, has a good parts to work with and is the 75cc. It'll be a nice runner when im done. Anyone got a starter pulley they can spare before I order it?
