Ditto.

A vac test may also reveal a leak (bottom end or intake) that is actually being sealed by pressure. (Think of a one way valve somewhere that'll open with vac and seal with pressure..., typically an oil seal.) And there has to be a way to overcome or block the decomp for an accurate vac test..., or pressure test for that matter. If it's leaking bad enough during a pressure test, a smaller leak may not even be detectable until the larger one is fixed (or blocked in the case of the decomp)

As for the 044 Ron, I'd gladly make a comparison if I had a 7-10 handy. LOL And fwiw, my 044 is a pretty bad ass runner that sees quite a bit of use. Nimble, reliable, and tough. Can't see myself grabbing a PM700 in favor of it any time soon except for the Mac fun factor. But that's just me. And to be honest, I haven't put much time on my PM700's at all. They're also 3 lbs. heavier than an 044 which comes in at 13 lbs. dry w/o bar and chain..., pretty much the same as a 7-10 weight-wise.

I pretty much parked my 700 after I got the 82cc MACs. The additional power plus the AV made the difference - the added weight never seemed to be a factor for me. A 13# power head is significant though. I have my order in with my dealer for the 500i for that very reason; don’t know when he can put his order in.

Visiting friends in NC. He had a Mac 1010 Pro in the garage. Said it wouldn't run. Said it had no fuel in it. Pulled the plug and it had spark. Put a shot of TruFuel in the plug hole. Pulled the choke, pulled 3 times
Pushed the choke in, pulled three times and it fired right up, then it just kept running. I said this thing has fuel in it! He said oh, I guess I tried to start it once. Other than it looks like someone tried to cut a piece of RR track in half with it, it runs great. I might have to get one.

Just left a little saw shop here in NC and he has a Mac 200 that he said runs and he will take $50 FOR it. Should I go back and get it? He also had a little Homlite 150. Probably take 50 for both.

Save your money for a 10-10.

I agree. I have a mate with a 200 and yea it's cool and all but no real balls to it. It's fun to start up and cut a few rounds but very slow not really a useable saw. But a 10-10 can still cut your firewood happily for the rest of your life if ya needed it too.

Got another mate with a 250 same again really it runs great but it's not a super so I'm not paying what he wants for it I'll grab another 10-10 instead

So stripped down my newer 7-10 for a look. I thought I had a replacement cylinder on it as it was unpainted but no it has overspray on it from the shroud20190316_204853.jpgso this saw seemed to be painted after assembly and none of my other 10 series saws have been done this way. 20190316_204938.jpg
The shroud is green underneath and the paint on this saw doesn't seem very good its faded a lot and seems to wear a lot easier too compared to my other Mac's.

Not sure why but I have an extra hole in the back of the muffler so I'll weld that up.

Now the piston/cylinder looks ok it has a light score on the exhaust side but seems fairly shallow and the score on the piston doesn't catch a nail so I mite throw some rings at this old girl20190316_203532.jpg

That last pic looks quite bad but its only a mark and can't be felt at all. The intake side looks brand new. This old saw fires up on 1st pull most times really happy with it

Thanks guys. I have over 30 saws. I only have a couple Macs. My rule of thumb is a min of 70cc or 24 inch bar. So the poor little 10-10 isn't on my list unless I find one for 5-10 bucks at auction. The 200 looks kind of like my 550 so I thought it would look good on the shelf. I need a Yellow shelf between the Red shelves. If I need to cut firewood all day I use the 660 with 36 inch bar, or 290 with 20 inch. If I'm just having fun it's the 550 or one of my Super 1050 Homelites. The only reason for the 200 is it looks big, heavy, runs, and fits on the middle shelf. Can't remember seeing one before so I didn't know if it was worth 50 bucks.

NorthEast Tennessee Saturday MAC Report

I was chainsawless in western N.C. all day so I have no MAC report and no pictures; not even a MAC sighting to report. I did inquire to see if there had been any developments in the search for my dad’s old MAC, but there were none.

Maybe Brian had a MAC adventure.
