Thanks guys. This is the one I have and I just figured it was a standard old 250. It has a vented airbox cover, but not like the black one. I hope to go by my old saw source and he has a 250 on the shelf, if it was a Super, I'd get it. It does not have a full wrap or I would have brought it home last trip. If not, there are plenty other saws I'd like. He wants $20 apiece for all of them. He has a 1-40, several big Macs that I couldn't get to, that I'll dig out, and a big Homelite gear drive.

Another confusing thing is Acres site shows a stock pic for the Supers, with a black air box cover, but I can't see holes in it, and neither pic has a full wrap. I know he puts lots of work in his site, but, you just can't do it all.

Acres is a great go to, but like you said, can't do it all. It'd be cool if the site had the ability to allow people to submit changes and he could just review and accept/decline. I think crowd sourcing saw info would help that site a lot.

You're in MD? Hmmm I'd buy saws all day long at $20 if I could find something like that in NoVA. I might have to make a road trip... :)

Its my birthday I've had a beverage or several and I'm confessing my sins:)

Happy Birthday!

I've seen 2 different versions of the super 250, one with the long black air filter cover with the holes drilled in it, i'd call that a "later super 250" and an "early one" that looks just like the saw above, but with a super decal. I believe there are a couple different combos of carburetors that could come in them and I believe the later one was 87cc and the early one was 80, but with improved porting?

As stated, they usually have full wraps, and auto oilers which can be clearly seen inside the gas tank.

North East Tennessee Saturday MAC Report

Beautiful day in NET today though on the warm side at 75* presently. Nice to be out and around folks who aren't torqued out over politics.

Woodlot is slammed with wood to split since Covid-19 concerns took our inmate labor force. Too bad as everyone benefited from letting them out of jail for a few hours each Saturday. Fortunately for the three of us, Brian found us some wood to cut in town so we avoided splitter duty. It didn't take long to turn it into firewood. Brian had both his 800 and 805 - not sure if one was giving him trouble or what as he was at the truck a bit with one of them - I didn't have time to chat to see what was up. Here he is bucking with his 800.

Lee and I did a little rigging today while Brian ran the skidder, his mighty F150. Minimal turf damage done with Brian's deft touch on the throttle and clutch.

Brian is a lot more outgoing than me so I step back and let him handle PR. Before we were done, the PO gave us two trees to fall and buck. Maybe we can dodge splitter duty again.

Some here have seen the recent dyno thread. It contains a long cordless tool rabbit trail, but the dyno information is worth the read and is always interesting to me - especially at what rpm a saw make its best power - usually much lower than the high speed hype we see. The more I study and use a saw, the more I think most non-professional users seldom, if ever, use or need the power that the 70 plus cc saw provides. And that when it comes to power sucking cutting, the modern saws don't have much edge over the old ones we enjoy, except in the area of fuel consumption and some conveniences such as side bar adjusters and clicking chain brakes.

If I ever get my experimental saw done, I may have to pack it and my 800 off for a dyno run.

Be safe.

Ron

A little more progress. I went out and bought a brass hammer just to be safe, and with that I successfully got the clutch off. I also found one of the "missing" screws lol.

Next I got the muffler thingy removed, giving a better look at the state of the piston/cylinder. My untrained eyes tell me that the piston looks a bit scratched, but the side of the cylinder that I can see looks decent.
What do you guys think? Though either way I'm going to want to go all the way and split the thing in half to fully examine it/clean it up, right?
By the way, is it a big deal that the flywheel has a couple fins broken off? Will everything still be fine running it like that, or should I be looking for an undamaged replacement for it?

That cylinder will be sweet and besides its all you got lol and the mac dealer down the road is ummm out of stock lol. The exhaust side could be worse though so be warned but it's all ya got.

The flywheel probably should be replaced although it would run happily enough but easy enough to get 1 though.

Yea look as good as any. If ya split it. Clean that piston up with scotch rite and oil. Itll be ok. Cylinder, clean it up with some fine emery and oil. I use 2 stroke oil and emery cloth on cylinders. It works just fine. Others use orher things. They all work great. Just take your time no matter and itll come out good.

The cylinder of my 800 looked a whole lot worse than that, even has a dent in the chrome and a 2mm chunk out below the intake . I got pretty aggressive with cleaning up the cylinder and that old school chrome just laughed at abrasives. My piston was totally smeared but with a good used replacement the saw runs beautifully.

You guys are sleeping on the job. The reason my 250 didn't look like any of the pics is, I posted a pic of my 200. Oops. Picked up 2 more today. A 1-40 and a mystery saw to me. Could use some help with the ID. I took it because I don't remember ever seeing a saw with the the starter cord coming out of the center of the case. I can see where it has a "gear drive" of some sort going over to the flywheel. Any one know what model it is?
