Heavy and ugly but work well and reliable. Not your classic Macs but worth having one around if you get it cheap.
The 650 is meant to be better (porting?).

If you don't have any Macs yet I would go straight for a 10-10 or other 10-series.

The guy wanted 25 each and they both we not complete saws. I have a Pro Mac 510 and a MacCat I got for free that I haven’t cleaned up yet. I have been wanting a 10-10A for awhile now

The 510 is a pretty good saw. Fairly comfortable to use. Well worth fixing up.

I finally got the long awaited PM55 today.Everything on the saw WAS seized - recoil ( needs to have the pulley replaced),engine,manual oiler,& choke.There was no plug in the engine which most likely contributed to the engine being seized.I sprayed some Deep creep in the plug hole & let it do it's magic while I fiddled with the recoil.Lots of white death on the screws & the pulley,the pulley is shot.A lot of folks would've just thrown the recoil spring right out in the trash,but I'm gonna try to save it.The spindle wouldn't even turn after I pulled the pulley off.Surprisingly the plastic bushing is still good.The coil wire is gone,so I've gotta either make a new one,or use a new one I have on hand.
I got the choke to work freely with Deep Creep & a bit of light hammering.After I was done cleaning up the recoil housing I put a breaker bart & socket on the flywheel nut to see if it'd break loose.The Deep Creep did it's job,I could've turned it over with a ratchet.It seems to have decent compression,but hard to tell when turning it over with a ratchet.The manual oiler is freed up,but not pumping any oiol.I'll have to take both oilers off & go through them,my guess is check valve issues.
This saw has been sitting for many yrs.in a not so friendly environment.I hope to bring it back to it's former glory & give it to my son.
One good thing is the fuel tank is in great shape.Here's a pic of the recoil pulley.

So I started my career in life as an equipment operator for VDOT in VA. During that time I starting making deer scents and Turkey calls. That lead to me meeting a gentleman and together we started a national level Hunting TV show. That lead to being a dealer for Action Track Chair. My love for McCulloch grew from a place of reconnecting with my roots. It has connected me with so much. Last week it came full circle… gang I have been quiet because I have been busy ... The rumors are true. Good ,bad. or otherwise I now own the entire McCulloch stock that was previously Bob Johnson's. It will take months to organize. 90% NOS....A dream come true... McCrazy ... America!!!

Wow happy for you to get all bobs stuff. But not envious of the catalogging ahead. Congrats on all those parts. I hope you keep him proud. Bob offered it to me a few months ago. I couldnt afford his price nor have the room or time to take care of it all. Im glad his legacy goes on.

Congratulations Max! As you requested,I kept quiet,Lol.Bob offered it to me several times too,but I didn't have the room,nor the skill for handling all that loot.I hope you can carry on as long,or even longer that Bob did.I sure miss talking with him on the phone.

putting my SP70 back together today, the service manual says the impulse hose is supposed to have a spring in it to prevent it from collapsing. maybe this is what you're experiencing? would work at idle but collapse at high rpm? believe the oil pumps are impulse driven, correct?

You guys probably aren't going to believe this,but I managed to save the recoil drum on the PM55.I took a screwdriver & scraped off all the "material" that had accumulated on the bottom side.Then I took a ******* file to the drum & filed it nice & smooth.With the spring I scraped off the worst of the corrosion,then sanded it smooth.I put it back together & it works great!
I pulled the carb off too figuring it needed a rebuild.The pump side was in great condition & nothing in the inlet screen.I went on to the metering side thinking it'd be the culprit,it was,but not in the way I thought.Someone had rebuilt the carb & put the diaphragm & gasket on in the wrong order.This is probably why the saw sat for so long & no one wanted to mess with it.
The next thing on the list is to pull the tank handle & the oilers to see what's going on with the no oiling situation.
BTW,from what I could see of the piston,it looked to have some minor scoring & the cylinder looks good too.

Knowing how you feel about McCulloch I think you are the right person for the legacy of that inventory, you must feel alot of honor and responsibility with that haul!
It's a good thing people like @heimannm have paved the way and is good people to bounce ideas off of.

Has anyone got an old impulse line for a PM850 or the like laying around?I need the spring out of it or similar for another saw (Homie 410) that has a kink in the new oil line.

Ed - I have an abundance of the springs from the manual oiler on the Mini Mac saws, I expect they could be made to work. Bob was using them in place of the fuel line springs on the 10 Series models. Based on you post I'm guessing you only need the fuel lines and spring now?

Max - I have made the commitment that I will get all of the hardware items inventoried and put away in the coming days. That task alone is taking almost as much time as the parts themselves.



While you have a great treasure now, I would encourage you to find a good inventory system and way to organize the parts that will let you easily locate them as needed. I can find 99.5% of the saw parts I received but a lot of the trimmer/blower/vac/etc. parts are located rather haphazardly in my garage attic and I am hard pressed to find things when people come looking.

I'm sure it will be months before I really have things organized in a way that I can be comfortable with.

Congrats! To second what Jethro said, glad someone here got it. Let me know when you get settled, I already see a bunch of stuff I "need" in those pictures.
