The 2-10 & 5-10 will have a DSP whereas the 10-10 will not.I see there's a tag in the air box,get the model # off the tag & go from there.
Both of my 5-10s came with an SDC carb as did my 2-10,& the 2-10 that got stolen from me as well.

My 2-10 has a Tillotson and no DSP.
Having said that, there's nothing on it that states
its definitely a 2-10.

I've never heard of a 2-10 having a Tillotson carb & not having a DSP.I'd say you have a 10-10.Of course you're not in the U.S.,so that may account for something as well.Mac exports were sometimes quite different.

MAC gurus looking to source some parts for this recently revived PM850. Looking for piston and potentially cylinder for this old horse among smaller items. It was in the parts bin not running marked $10.

It's throwing chips now but has scuffing on intake of piston and appears to have a leaky comp release (real oily). Surprisingly compression is still good, more than enough to run. But it needs a few other pieces parts (no dogs, flywheel plastic gaurd).

This will be a working saw bucking logs, but I'd like to get it back near 100% before it gets more run time.

First MAC I've ever had so any weak spots or items to look at, feel free to chime in.

Which Piston, A, B, or C? I have B's and C's. Mark has all three sizes.

A NOS Cylinder is gonna be MUCH harder to find and cost alot of $$$. I have one left.

The decomp leaking...Have you pulled the carbon port plug out and cleaned out the carbon? Also is the washer on the decomp switch?

The rest of the things you mentioned super easy to get.

Look your av mounts over.
Incredible saws all around.
Mark may be around with some pointers.

@knightmax ill send you a pm. I have a B marked on top my cylinder.

I have not pulled the carbon port plug. Something i will look into for sure. I still need to download or find a decent manual for it. That's the kind of experienced operator info I need lol. I run stihl's (not brand loyal just what I have) and dad ran jonsered 625, 670, 930s etc. No Mac experience.

Am I right to use a regular ball hone on this bore ? I read somewhere someone thought that was bad on MACs. But I've honed other saws with good results.

The PM850 has a chrome plated cylinder. Some professionals will tell you never put any kind of hone in a chrome bore. others will use the ones with straight stones, and some will run a ball hone. There is no real need to create the cross hatch pattern, and if you do you are potentially removing some of the chrome. If your compression is over 135-140 PSI I wouldn't mess with it at all. If it is below 130 PSI you might see improvement with new rings provided the cylinder does not have any scoring. If there is any aluminum transfer at all, it should be cleaned off with either emery cloth or muriatic acid. A quick polish with emery cloth or scotchbrite is all they need most of the time. Try to make a good inspection of the cylinder through the exhaust and intake ports and looking through the spark plug hole.

Do pressure and vacuum test the cylinder and crankcase even if you don't have to open it up to treat the cylinder, many of those saws had a leaky PTO side seal from fibers getting behind the sprocket washer, and on occasion the crankcase seam itself would develop a leak.

Take a close look at your AV mounts, if either the front or rear are failed or even close you run a greater risk of tearing the carburetor boot. Boots are cheap and plentiful (I think I have NOS for under $10 and the AV mounts are available but a little more expensive.

The compression release can often be cleaned up with some mild abrasive and lapping the valve, some have good success just running it through an ultrasonic cleaner. I have a few washers if yours has been lost or compromised.

I clean alot of decomps! Lol
I usually soak them in Mean Green for a couple of days for the gooey build up ,then Berrymens fuel treatment for a day or 2 for hard carbon buildup.
Rinse in scalding water then immediately oil them with a light oil ( wd40) .

Brought a PM60 back to life today, friends saw. I took her all the way down and started over. I did not take pics. It was a nasty dirty saw. the only thing clean were the points lol. Tough old girl. She had lived a hard life. Cooling fins were packed solid. Condenser was toast. I chipped her and she is happily cackling away. Been on wrench a good bit since Uncle passed. I must say I missed it. I am teaching the friend to fix his own saws. Passing it on. Time to have a bourbon and enjoy the rest of the evening.

Well said max wrenching brings fond memories back of my father and I. Praying for ya.

Are you sure? In all the videos of 2-10s I have seen, none have DSP.
In photo searches I see some labelled 2-10A which have what I guess is a DSP switch on the top? Otherwise I see 2-10s without it. 🤷

@heimannm those are the tips I won't find in a book. That 850 has a good feel too it. I'll be checking those items out in the next week or so. Doesn't appear to have a ton of hours on the saw, at least for being 40ish years old. AV mounts are still there and not sloppy like some other jonsereds I've saw. But it needs a good warsh to inspect.
