Haven't started this saw(Super 250) in 2 years.....started first pull and ran for about 15 seconds smoking like a teenage vaporer. Took me a little bit of work to get it going again. I probably flooded it but after that it ran through all this poplar from a neighbors downed limb. Oak was already cut.

Like most McCulloch saws the Super 250 utilizes an impulse operated pulse pump. I have a 550 with the same setup, and I have learned to remove the spark plug and crank it over 10 or 20 times to clear the oil from the crankcase/cylinder before I try to start the saw. Seems as they are setting there is the possibility of bar oil seeping through the pump into the crankcase.

Just seeing if this short video of it idling will load. I need to continue to work on the chain as it dives off to the right a lot still. I enjoyed running it in that large poplar limb. I was going to just buzz through the remaining red oak with the 385xp to get it done quick but I think I'll try to straighten out this chain for the S250.

 
I was looking into the pulse pump (automatic oilers) on the large frame saws following up on a request from Max and ended up heading down a few rabbit holes.

Seems there were 4 different part numbers for the pulse pump assemblies based on two different pump housings.

This housing...

...becomes one of these two PN's depending on the adjuster screw used.

...becomes 83135 or 86498 depending on the adjust screw and the part numbers used on the sleeve and spring.

Along with the pumps, there is a whole assortment of gasket PN's that McCulloch used. Based on the IPL's and looking at parts, I think I have most of the gasket part numbers figured out, I still would like to determine just what 61473 and 65668 look like.

On the later, top tank saws they used two gaskets and a spacer between the pulse pump and the oil tank, earlier models only used one gasket. There were even two different PN's for the spacer depending on the material used.

I tried to summarize the pulse pump and gasket PN's used on the different models working from the IPL's. As best I can determine, the pulse pumps themselves are interchangeable but the gaskets used on the front tank saws (450 and 550) are very specific.

380A and early 450 use a different pulse pump built into the bottom of the fuel tank
440 uses 60253 Pulse Pump and 60264 gasket
Late 450 uses 60253 Pulse Pump and 62338 gasket
Early 550 (PN63450) uses 60253 Pulse Pump and 62338 gasket w/60601 fuel tank gasket (crankcase bottom)
Mid 550 (SN10-, 11-) uses 67917 Pulse Pump and 65673 gasket w/65669 fuel tank gasket (crankcase bottom)
Mid 550 (SN11A-, 12-) uses 83135 Pulse Pump and 65673 gasket w/65669 fuel tank gasket (crankcase bottom)
Super 550 (SNA12-, 13-) uses 83135 Pulse Pump and 65673 gasket w/65669 fuel tank gasket (crankcase bottom)
740 use 60253 Pulse Pump and 60264 gasket
790 uses 60253 Pulse Pump and (2 ea) 61473 gaskets with 61472 spacer (square hole)
795 uses 67917 Pulse Pump and (2 ea) 68794 gaskets with 67471 spacer (square hole)
797 uses 67917 Pulse Pump and (2 ea) 61473 gaskets with 67471 spacer (square hole)
S797 uses 83135 Pulse Pump and (2 ea) 68794 gaskets with 67471 spacer (square hole)
PM105 uses 83135 Pulse Pump and (2 ea) 86186 gaskets with 67471 spacer (square hole)
CP125/S uses 83136 Pulse Pump and (2 ea) 68794 gaskets with 67471 spacer (square hole)
SP105 uses 83135 Pulse Pump with 86186 gasket (pump side), 67471 spacer, 68794 gasket (tank side)
SP125 (SN 10-) uses 83135 Pulse Pump and (2 ea) 68794 gaskets with 67471 spacer
SP125 (SN 11-, 12-, 13-, 14-, 15-) use 89498 Pulse Pump with 86186 gasket (pump side), 67471 spacer, 68794 gasket (tank side)

If anyone has additional insight into the gaskets I would appreciate the information.

How am I going to repaint the air filter cover on my 10-10 because the lettering. Is there anything I can to do repaint the lettering or preserve it?

Depending on the sticker that is there, a forum member has a website (lookup 'oldsawshop') and he has stickers for a few different models reasonably priced.
 
There isn't a sticker for my 10-10 automatic. as mentioned above. what can I do to preserve the lettering or repaint it on there?
 
If I put an ignition chip on, is there any kind of timing I have to do? and is there anything to know?
 
Also you know those air filters for the mac 10-10A that are really hard to find? I have one but it has a couple spots where the foam has deteriorated and Left a hole. How can I fix this?
 
I didn't think much of this electric saw when I got it. In fact, it was just going in the loft out in the shed. However, the other night it was in the teens and I needed to cut a piece of split yellow pine that was soaked full of pitch (fat wood or lite wood) which I further split into six inch stove lighters.
So I plugged it in and surprised at how well it went thru that SYP. So now it will remain out for that and the sometimes too long piece of wood I miscut to fit in the stove.
