I dont't have a CP125 (yet) but I do have a CP70 up on the shelf. According to the IPL's and McCulloch carburetor book it should have an SDC 18 with the impulse line. The 18 had a .750 venturi and .812 throttle bore like the SDC 20, hopefully it's an easy swap.

I could set up one SP125 with the adjustable/larger venturi carburetor and leave the other as is, both are about the same compression (150 PSI) so it should be a good test. I can set them up with the same bar & chain combo to keep it fair.

Now if only the weather will cooperate and let me get to some wood on Saturday we should have an interesting day. I want to try the BP-1 as well.

Do you have some high-tech equiptment of some sort? I'm trying to think of what kind of test you're gonna run and I can't even imagine................ all my remarks on the power difference has been based on purely "feel". And my feel compared to someone elses' I'm sure would vary. As I understand your statements as to cause and effect relationships going on in carbs, I fully agree. And certainly everyone who owns a Mac 125 would not be positively influenced by a switch to a SDC 18,19, OR 20. Again, if I had to use mine regularly I'd leave the HS on it. I'm hoping you can provide some results that are more accurate than my "feel"!

As noted, I have two SP125's with nearly equal compression and thought it would be iteresting to see if changing the carburetor on one would make a noticable difference. Not really scientific, but may be a slighly more objective way to see if there is a detectable difference with the bigger, adjustable carburetor.

Besides, if the weather permits, why not go out and run some saws?

Always, if you have some spare time,Run some saws. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, I have to go get the other truckload of saws I bought yesterday rain or shine. I just can't leave them there after I've paid for 'em. Most of what's left is locked-up old belt-drive type Clintons and what looks like Mac 47s and 4-30s,etc. Nothing great like 895s or 797s.

Sdc 20

Since I got you talking carbs. Which is best the Tillotson or the sdc20? CP125s came with either. Does anyone know the Model # for the Tillotson? The MAC part number doesn't help much. Thanks, Ron

Pro Mac 650

Guys...

I have a Pro Mac 650 which belonged to my Grandfather, he sadly passed away a few years ago and left me his saws, The Pro Mac was a non runner and has subsequently been left in the shed gathering dust. for me its "uneconomical" to repair and parts over here are hard to come by. Dont know whats wrong with it, but would like to see it go to someone who could perhaps give it some tlc and get it up and running again....

Some advice would be great...anybody know what its roughly worth?

Thanks guys

James

If it's the bottom one what do you need?

Its the bottom one...
Dont really know what I need, I am no mechanic and wouldnt know where to start.
The carb wont tighten down, so I guess the threads are trashed.

IIRC, thats only the isolator block. That shouldn't be too much money, even across the pond.

I have one that runs good now because of help on AS. We can probably walk you through it...

Thanks for all the help guys...

Will strip it down and go from there. Perhaps I will try to get the old girl going after all...Be prepared for some stupid questions though.

When I get started I will start a new thread and post pics.

Watch this space.

Thanks

James
