Check your cap and make sure the vent isn't plugged up. Come to think of it, that may be why it's nosing over in the cut on you, too.

How does the cap come apart i assume thru the top where the silver round plate is? the underside looks sealed. i have ordered rebuild kits for the carbs from chainsawr.com i will also install them when they get here hopefully that will make a differance. i assume that if the cap was plugged or faulty that would cause to much pressure for the suction of the carb.

Well I got the call today, could I please come over and remove a tree for a family member, woo hoo, throw a couple chainsaws, some wedges, box of files and chains, a rope, some bar oil and gas, and some PPE( gloves and ear plugs;)) and off I go. Here are some pics of todays adventures.

Wasn't quite what I had expected, but the 10-10 performed admirably and I ended up with some firewood.
I did drink a beer afterward and took a nap.

Lotsa different caps. Some had sintered metal which you can soak in the cleaner of choice, others a little rubber duckbill. I think Bob Johnson or Sugar Creek Supply might have them.

Okay thanks for the tip. how can you tell if they are bad or dirty without taking them apart and what do you look for once you get it a part if it is not plugged up inside.

sorry for all the questions i am newer to working on these saws thanks for all the help.

Another McMystery...

Got my hopes up just now while briefly looking over my 'standard' 250. Was in the shop for other reasons and decided to take a quick peek at the saw.

Haven't done much with that saw yet, other than looking at the P/C through the exhaust, figuring out that it'd run on it's own after a prime......and that the carb's sick and needs a kit. That was months ago. The bar is also somewhat unique in my stable in that it has a rim-drive drum and a short 16" or so Remington roller nose bar and a loop of 3/8" chain.

Looked at the MN/SN tag on the oil tank top and got excited. The model number on the tag is 600100, with an 11 SN prefix. Should be a Super 250 instead of a 'standard'. A 'standard' 250 should have a 600010 model number. The oil tank and top have a fade and shade that's similar to the rest of the saw.

The yellow AF cover is busted (and poorly repaired) and has "250" (not Super 250) on it. The handlebar mounting boss on the top of the fuel tank is busted, and somebody drilled a hole through the remaining parts of the bracket and the handlebar to run another screw through it. There's an blockoff plate in the fuel tank in place of an auto-oiler pump. The carb is a Tillotson HL63D. Flipped the saw over and checked for #s on the block. 62481 is the only number visible on the block.

Maybe I got a second Super 250 (and this one a runner with a great P/C) without even knowing it. Scooted back to the computer and checked my Super 250 and 250 IPL's. The Super 250's have an 83830 block number. The 'standard' 250 has a 62481 block number................just like my saw. Dammit......:msp_mad:

Somebody must've changed that oil tank top long ago. It has a factory-looking gasket. My guess is that the tank top was damaged at the same time as the AF cover and the handlebar mount section of the fuel tank. Wish I knew where the rest of the 'donor' Super 250 was. That 'standard' 250 spend its whole live on a ranch about 10 miles or so from my house. The original owner is no longer with us...

Aaron what is the diference between the super and non super models?

A standard 250 is an 80cc/4.9ci saw that usually doesn't have an auto oiler. The Super 250 is an 87cc/5.3ci saw (like a 300), but with more agressive porting. Quite a bit more mid range, acceleration, and top end. They also have auto oilers. The engine is the 'special' part. All of the bolt on stuff can easily be changed.

250 = :)

Super 250 = :buttkick:

So does this hold equally true for the SP125:hmm3grin2orange:

I thought the duckbill was NLA. Is someone making them again, or are these NOS?

I don't know how y'all stand it. I live in Ohio and in the summer I want to move to Wisconsin or the UP of Mich to get away from the heat. I prefer a high around 75 degrees. 85 and up and I'm miserable. I hate when someone offers me a tree in the summer. Of course I'm going to take it, but I gotta start early and quit when it gets miserable hot.
