137 - A 3216 is a plastic Mac, $50 may be a stretch even for one that is like new. I have a 2318 (2.3 In³/18" bar) which is fine for small trimming jobs, but I don't even like to use it on pine over 6 or 8" in diameter.

Mark

thats what i was wondering i figured as much thank you for the knowledge and insight.

Thanks to Mark, the 1-50 lives (although not yet with great gusto).

Sunday Night Centerfolds

While most of my saws are runners, they generally all have at least 1 thing I'd like to do to them before I'm satisfied. These 2 no longer share an asterisk with footnotes in my registry.

Enjoy.

Wow. Those are clean. I noticed that it looks like a few parts are interchangeable between the two. Am I correct?

These are my 2 most "original" Macs. Both came to me with original carb kits and lines in them which is why they wouldn't run.

Yes, a ton of parts interchange. The top tank, rear handle, and points system are different (along with the engine design and displacement), but there's not much that won't bolt up between them. The only immediate problem I know of is that the older tank must be used to clear the push rod breaker points. Otherwise, McFrankensaw...

Sweet looking saws cpr, Nice lawn too.
I have a really nice Super 44 i need to get
running. Just to many projects.

Lee

Thanks Lee.

Ignore those dandelions in the background. Mud streaks from the tires evidence the rain we've had and these were shot in one of the higher and dryer spots on the property. There's acreage I won't be getting on for weeks with the mower...

I received a saw a few days ago that looked like it had the original gas in it...

As I have posted already, I stumbled upon a Mac 790 disguised as a 797, at the local auto swap meet. As recieved pics...

not to pretty, runs sporattic.

So after a couple of week of tinkering, clean carby, 30" roller with ore #59 chain, a new rear handle, the ol saw looks a little more presentable. And it runs, like a 6 cube should.

Overall its in pretty good condition.
The previous owner said its been sitting for 8 years.
Has had a patch over the muffler housing.(The cover off a PM700 should fit BTW)
It was missing its spikes, robbed them and the gas cap off PM700#1.

I had a check down the plug hole and it looks pretty clean,
will have to pull carby and muffler one day for a better inspection.

I Blew out the airfilter, checked the plug, checked the fuel tank(clean as a whistle) gassed it up and went for a start.

H'mm no decomp,(woulda thought these big saws would have had one) OK, choke out, throttle locked give 4 pulls and she coughed, choke in a bit give it a pull it roared into live with a puff of blue smoke....very good.

Had a quick play with carby settings, as it came its pretty good.
Stopped and started it about 10 times over 1/2 hour and it started first pull every time...I'm liking that.

Not sure i like the solid nose bar tho.i could always chuck on a 18" B/C it'd make a good limbing saw..LOL

Can any one tell me what the the sti#l numbers are on the drivers?.
The 700 has 3/8's chain with #5
The 850 has 3/8's chain with #3.

Sh#t looking at the pics i need to find the camera and stop using the cellphone.Sorry.

nallac - when you pull the muffler you will see an odd inverted v shaped notch in top of the exhaust port. This was made to produce a bit of compression release during starting, but does not seriously impact the performance of the saw running full speed. That way McCulloch was able to avoid the typical problems associated with pop up or vavle type compression release devices.
