I personally don't understand how someone could sell their conscience for $500.

Thing is, people sell their consciences for a whole lot less than that!

You see it all the time on ebay... Someone spends weeks going through all the work of setting up the account, setting up the auction... and ruin their reputation for a "big score" of $20!

That's a LOT of work for $20... If it was $500 I could almost, ALMOST understand.

To keep it on topic, I just bought a 7-10

Mark, why don't I have my people contact your people and we can straighten this thing out. Just kidding you. I didn't even know about this saw as I have sworn off CL until after my daughter's wedding.

Hope she's a runner. :) Ron

Well i recieved the new bar today and it wasn't exactly what i expected the bar was narrower than my other mac bars and it had a narrow closed slot to attach to the saw, but i fixed that with the grinder, i measured the slot for the chain and it measured in at .057, i tried to put an old mac chain in the slot and it went in without forcing it but was to tight to slide. the bar is 31" long and was wondering what size chain and how long it needs to be.

Look and see if there is a part number on the bar. In the absence of a part number, I am going to guess that this is a 28" hard nose .050 gauge bar that takes 93 drive links of 3/8" chain. You can back into a .404 with a little arithmetic. I believe that a 3/8 is not actually .375 but a smaller fraction. There is a thread somewhere that gives the actual lenght of a 3/8 pitch. Ron

there is a number on the bar i can look but will that number include the size of chain or is there somewhere i can look it up at?
total overall length is 31" but from the tank of the saw to the end of the bar is approx.. 26". the number on the saw is U2 89515. the total width of the bar is 2 7/8 vs 3 3/4 of my old bars.

It may or may not have the gauge shown. I doubt it will have the drive link count. I have several MAC IPL's for the ten series. Some of them list bars with chains and drive link counts and some don't. Here's the number listed for a 28" hard nose MAC 10 bar - #89505. Based upon your measurements the gauge must be .050 as there must be clearance for the drivers. For example, my .058 gauge bar measures .063. Hope this helps. Ron

I'm not trying to be sneaky here Ron, just don't want to get any more people involved than are already getting wound up in this thing.

Mark

Mark, I'm just giving you a hard time. This saw saga really isn't any of my business. Many of us stand in awe at your ability to find saws. I like to imagine that you have an empire of agents around the world scouting for you so I was just playing with that thought. Ron

I can't find any info on this number. I have a couple MAC hardnose bars. I'll check their numbers. Ron

thank you, also my 250 does not have the thin metal chain guide plates on the side of the bar like my 1-51 are those necessary my husky 61 rancher has them as well but i did not see them in my 250 ipl ... i believe they are called a bar cover judging by my 1-51 ipl.

Only one of my bars has a part number - it is 8950?. The bar plates are to protect your saw and cover from chain damage. Some large saws also need spacers between the bar and the plates when using a narrow bar such as yours. I don't know but I would assume you need these as well. I believe that Mark has a post or two somewhere on this thread about this and how to make your own. Ron

CM3, what you have is a small mount Mac bar, used on 10-10, 7-10, PM800, SP-80, Sp-81, you get the deal. They use 5/16" bar studs, the big mac's have 3/8" studs, you've handled that issue with a grinder, no prob. The slot is a little worn, but designed to use .050 chain. the bar protrudes approx. 26 to 27" past the cases. I'll bet your drive clutch bell is designed to run .404 chain, with a 7 tooth sprocket solidly welded in. Man if you could find a clutch bell that uses a rim style sprocket you could run 3/8 x .050 chain. I think your hurt'n to find .404 pitch chain in .050 gauge to fit that bar slot tho. Try to find a rim style clutch drum, then you can go with 3/8" chain.

Had to do some grinding to make it fit. Will find out this weekend how well it's going to oil.

That's a saw you can use to chase little kids off of your lawn... :D

Sorry about the lack of progress on the 790... been ####ing around with the miserable POS German car in my driveway... mechanical fuel injection is fun to set up from scratch. :D

I promise I will boil the cylinder tomorrow morning, and let it cool off while I work some more on the car, and I will measure the cylinder and ensure the cylinder is measured twice and maybe a third time... I suspect it should be all good, but we'll find out tomorrow. :)

P.S. If I don't do anything on the saw tomorrow, ya'll (CPR, Wendell, RandyMac, Eccentric) have a right to smack me silly. Hopefully I don't forget to work on the saw tomorrow. :msp_scared:
