hey guys... I found a mac 3200 near me that a guy is selling for $50... any thoughts? I've seen pictures and it's definatly in really good condition... externally at least. Would this little mac be better than my poulan wild thing that I keep taking in for $40 of service every year?

Thanks for any help!

I've had mine since Hurricane Fran in 1996. They were selling them off the truck at Home Depot...by lottery drawing. I got the last one that night.

I ran it a fair amount the first couple years but over time switched to various Stihls. The Mac had a bad habit of cutting off and not restarting for a while. Tonight I decided to see if I could start it up because I need to help someone with tornado clean up in the area and will need to do a lot of limbing. So I cleaned the air filter, put in some fresh fuel and oil, and it fired up. After setting the carb, which I had never done before, it ran like a champ. Quite a buzzy little saw, but I will keep it a while and see how it cuts.

well gentlemen i tore the sprocket and clutch drums off the 250 and 1-51 tonight i measured the shaft and it measured 5/8th of an inch and was wondering what other measurements are important when trying to find 3/8 sprockets to replace them with.

$189 for a 10-10 is more than they usually bring. Even a 10-10s usually is around $100 unless it's in extremely good condition, new in box or something like that. Not saying they're not worth it, they just don't sell that high.

just because they're asking a price doesn't mean they're going to get it... However, the classic chainsaw market is a seller's market right now. Good time to peruse craigslist for those odd deals on really desirable saws and flip them on ebay for big $.

Man, if they can sell them for that good on 'em. It looks like I need to diversify my investment portfolio to include medium and large MACs, they are starting to outpace gold.

Get in line. There's already thousands of guys doing that. Getting anything decent from CL for a reasonable price (especially if you work for a living, and don't have a buncha free time because you're collecting an SSI or SSA check) is damn near impossible anymore, at least 'round here....

Yep. It's a great time to drive yet one more 'affordable' collecting hobby out of the price range of folks. Heck, it worked so well for old cars, comic books, stamps, and such. Why not ruin one more good thing? All in the name of making a quick buck...

So Aaron, Do you have any collectable comic Books?
Spiderman #129? I have a few.

Yip ,IF they get that price for em........

I could always sell you a complete 7-10A for $100US for your investment portfloio,(you can then onsell on fleabay)...shipping will be a killer from New Zealand tho.

Damn, it's not fair that they have yellow fever too!! :(

Sometimes I wonder if it would've been better to simply say these saws suck and need work all the time so the prices would drop... it seems like everyone that is not a member here is reading this thread and deciding they need to buy a Mac!!!! :dizzy:

We never hear about the Macs that are picked up by guys outside our circle... :(

Oh, this circle isn't very small. I've gotten several PMs from members who have drool-inducing Mac stuff, they just don't post about it. Trust me, they read our silly rants and know what's going on.

[sarcasm] yes, that is my goal - am i that transparent? i find it very fulfilling to drive up prices on things. just think of me as the speculator of MACs! my next conquest is DVD players.[/sarcasm]

you know i was not being serious about investing in saws, right?

as an aside, stamp prices are terrible now. my dad gave me a huge collection that i recently took to a stamp show (Philatelic Society for those who like big words). most of the stamps are just worth postage. kinda' disappointing, not that i was going to sell them anyhow.

Now that I know that, I ain't selling any of my Macs... cause there are people simply hogging them and/or letting people pay out the ass for one, and worst yet, not letting anyone see them!!!

I know the 850 that I rebuilt is easily worth some serious money, but to me, it's not about how much it's worth... it's simply a piece of history, that should be shared with others by pictures, videos, or letting someone run it.

What's the point of having a nice collection of Macs if no one sees it? I have no intention of letting a Mac of mine go into some collector's hands, and never see or hear about it again. If I were to think of selling it (not likely...) it'd probably go to Mark or Aaron, some other good member here.

One example of a good collector would be Mark... he has just about every Mac I can think of, and probably a bunch more that I can't think of... and he actually lets us see them, whether in person, in a video, or in a picture...

Disclaimer: All that post their Macs and Mac stuff are exempt from this silly rant, as you post and we get to see said Mac item... instead of you holding it over our heads and not letting us take the blindfold off...

those that don't post their Macs and share some history sound kinda selfish to me... :msp_mad:

---------------------------------

The 790 has not been worked on today... ordered a set of snap gauges... hopefully in soon... in the meantime, I intend to clean the tins I have and then get the barn cleaned up... I'm a bit annoyed of having to weave around stuff and step over stuff... it's giving me tunnel vision... :dizzy::help:

Worked on some odd orange thing and applied the same redneck thread insert method on a stripped out muffler bolt hole... same process as I used on the 850, just in a bit different location, on a different saw.

I stopped by the local sawshop yesterday to see about a couple beater saws in the back. As all shops do, there was a back area for the clunkers. The exception here was that most of the clunkers were battle scarred, big inch timber saws. They went to a better place than mine, they went North to Amboy, WA. Wayne has saved and preserved many historic chainsaws. I wish I could have met up with him and helped load the saws.
Anyway, the shop guy sorta felt bad about it, I'd been after him on a few things, for a few years. He gave me the only thing left. It was on my McCulloch "to get" list. So, Saturday I got a veteran tree killer, yesterday I got this.....
