My 660s and Super 250s will drain the oil tank, takes about a week. The check valve needs constant attention, a tiny speck will cause the leak. Good thing is, it is very easy to maintain.

Do you mean that just by sitting the oil will drain out?

Check valve? Is that on the underside of the oil cap?

thanks!

I gotta play with a few Mac hogs today....
One of them was a bad starter, so I took some time to fix it : points adjustment did the trick.

Two fine runners with a 20" bar and .404 chain. I sharpened the chains and put them in some wood ... they real put a smile on one's face. :):)

please clarify this statement. when you were done "playing", whose toy room did you put them back in?

Can I get a close up of that brake handle ? I have the clutch cover but now I think I might have that handle too. Might get lucky and find a band and hardware if I look hard enough.

any one know if that handle crosses over to a promac series (850).

thanks, ric

This week

I was traveling across Indiana again this week, finally got to go back to the small shop near Berne and picked up a 6-10 complete, and a Pro Mac 850 and SP81 for parts. I think I will be able to make the SP81 into a runner, the Pro Mac seems to be pretty well done. I put fuel in the 6-10 and it started and seems to run pretty well, not quite a strong as my 7-10 but not bad.

Over near Crawfordsville I found another little shop and picked up an Eager Beaver (he insisted I take it away) and a Pro Mac 700 that needs the brake handle and a few parts. Has good compression but is missing the bracket that goes on top of the carburetor with the stud to hold the air filter and cover in place.

Well you can add a real nice original 1-72 to mylist now. I'm curious to see how it stacks up against my super 44A, since they are both 87cc's.

One more - 5-10

I got this 5-10 from Drew Crane several months ago, had it stripped down and all cleaned up for a while but due to stupidity I broke one of the rings. I had Bob Johnson bring two sets when he delivered the 660's two weeks ago, still stupid and broke another set. Finally, with the last new set I realized the piston has pins to keep the rings from moving (none of the bigger McCullochs I've worked on had them), went together nicely after that!

Unfortunately, someone ran this one with the clutch a little bit loose and the crankshaft and key way are not too sharp. As a result, I don't think it will be wise to run this one too hard in the wood. Too bad because it really has good compression and a nice bark.

This one originally had a McCulloch flat back carburetor but has been converted to the SDC. Really nice little block that someone made, perhaps I will be inspired enough to make a couple more for some other saws in need of a transplant.

Maybe next week I can get a family photo of all the 10 Series saws in a group. Not all are finished and running at this point but the collection is coming along pretty well.

Mark, Do Macs just find you or what? Seems like you're always stumbling upon them! Good stuff.

When I am driving and have a little time, I keep my eyes open for small shops and stop for a visit when I can. This has also given me the opportunity to meet members like Hoss, Thall, Modified Mark, Manyhobbies, Oldsaw, Stihl#1, Wildandcrazyguy, and others.

I also make a point to let my customer's (feed and oil seed processing business) know I am interested in chain saws, you might be surprised how many (particularly in the maintenance department) have saws, know of saws, or recommend where to stop for a look.

gotcha. Well, if you're ever in Mid Michigan drop me a note and I'll buy you a coffee and we'll go hunting for saws!

After taking my "Eager Beaver" apart it is now the "devil beaver". I know why he made you take it away.

Below is a pic of my PM 650 clutch. The chain stops moving even when reved up in the cut. Can one of you with the expert eye tell me if it need replacing by this pic?

thanks Lee,
It's the only one I've seen with a chainbrake too.

The chain brake assemblies for the 105/125 has to be some of the more rare parts on the planet........

I think every red-blooded logger immediately tore off the brake and chucked it back in them days.........

Didn't the SP125C come standard with a brake?
