just bought a 250 cylinder, but it must be for a super 250? bigger bore and a compression release? no part # or id stamped into the bottom (no paint--looks new) part # on box that it came in is 87273 and on the shipping tag is 87450-5. ?? thanks in adv-----

looks like it's for a 790/795 56.3mm bore and is new. still has oil/grease on it-----anybody need one? or trade for a good stock bore 250/300 cyl

I checked that 87273 number. It is indeed a 795/895 block. I'll trade you a good running used McCulloch 250 engine (cylinder/piston/rings/crank/rod) with an excellent P/C and tons of compression for that new 795/895 cylinder. PM me so we can discuss. If you don't need anything but the cylinder, I'll keep the rest...

1-60 series, $100 too much.

Nah. $90 too much Randy.:D

Had a package with a New 895 Cylinder and Crank turn up today,
another impulse buy, does any one need it?.I got it cheap and am willing to let it go cheap,or swap for a 850 piston and rings.
I don't really need this haven't got a 895(yet?)....
Don't mind the dirt,it is Brand new just covered in oil.

This is nuts. Two of these blocks available at once. PM me with how much you want for the 895 block and crank.

Hey, you trying to pull something out from under my nose?:msp_sneaky: I hit on the guy first... waiting to hear back from him. I am digging up the dead presidents for the payment of said cylinder...

Easy now.....

I'm not "pulling" anything from under anybody's nose Kyle. Don't you go accusing me of pulling any shadey ####. I don't have access to your PM's (duh), so how was I to know that you "hit on" the guy?

How do you know I didn't PM him before you? You didn't say in public that you were interested in the cylinder. Also, there's two guys with 795/895 cylinders they don't need. The guy you apparently "hit on" specifically mentioned needing a good 250 jug, and is in Ca. I'm in Ca, and have the part he needs. Did you see this other post in the thread? Of course you'd have to get it shipped from NZ.....

I dunno, I am pretty sure I pm'd him first as I hopped right back in after reading the post above his...

Not accusing you of anything. Kinda :poke: a little with the :msp_sneak: It's fair game to whoever swallowed the hook first. The guy has a few choices now, sell to whoever bit first, or trade for an engine or something else.

I figure I should announce interest publicly from here on... my fault.

It's his part, and he can sell to whoever he wants to. If you PM'd him right after his post, then you did contact him before I did. Just be careful about accusing people of being sneaky or shadey. You don't 'need' to make your dealings public...............just don't accuse someone of sneaking something out from under you if you haven't made your intentions known first. Remember to think before you post....

Also, you need to think about whether this is what you really need for your saw. You'll either have to overbore this brand new stock bore jug for your used .020 over piston (and get new .020 over rings)......or find a stock bore piston and rings for it. Something to keep in mind. Did you contact the NZ fellow about his block and crank?

Again, that was my fault.

Yep, I hit the guy in NZ. Hopefully I'll hear back soon.

If I did get this new jug, I'd be looking for a stock piston and rings. If searching for a week or so for a stock one failed, then either finding a .030" piston or boring the new jug out .020"

Boring the new jug makes me a little uneasy. I plan to avoid such actions at almost all costs.

I agree. Boring out the new stock bore jug makes no sense. Used to make me laugh when guys would bore a brand new SBC block .030 over when building an engine. In those cases, I'd rather 'save' the overbore for later instead of gaining a few ci. Some people think going overbore on a 350 Chebby gives them an extra 50 ci or so...:hmm3grin2orange:

If you get a new jug you might as well go to the trouble of finding a stock bore piston. It's not like you need the saw going right this second to pay the bills. If you're going to the expense and risk of having a jug bored, it might as well be a used one that's not functional to you now in its current condition. You can't put the metal back in...

Stock pistons for these saws are out there. Overbore ones are too. Saw some overbore 103cc saw slugs on a couple Kart sites a while ago. Just takes a bit of searching, patience, and $$$.

Problem is Lee got the stuff from the NZ dude. So that's out.

Sounds like once I confirm those bore measurements tonight, we may end up seeing a .030" punched out jug for this 790.

Does that bring me any closer to a 797 if it's bored out again? :D

Come on man i don't swing that way........

Sorry to both of ya but someone else got in first........

I don't know why I put 'on' in there. I'm a bit tired right now from running almost 2 gallons of premix through the trimmer cleaning up the mess of tall grass and weeds around my house and property.

Two smoke exhaust does weird stuff to most people's brains... :alien2:

Figures. Well...........punching out a 350 chebby .030" gives you a whole 5.3ci (87cc like many old Macs) over stock. A stock McCulloch 790 is roughly 6.31ci. A .020 overbore makes it 6.42ci. A .030" overbore makes it 6.48ci. You'll gain a whole .06ci by going from .020" over to .030" over. Still about one cubic inch shy of a 797. The longer stroke of the 797 is where the big gain is...:D

Ah, I see.

So if I bored out the 5.7 liter 350 Vortec in the Burb .030" over, I'd gain another 5.3 cubes? Making it 5.8 liters?

Sounds good to me. She has 202,000 miles... rebuild is planned for the engine at some point. :) Planning on some real good parts to go on to make about 400hp... :)

Either way, .030" over size on the 790 will be stronger than the stock 790... :) So I win anyways with 6+ cubes... :)

It's gonna be a pain to find a decent loop of chain for a fairly low price... I think the sprocket that I have for it is 7/16" pitch...

Will write down the part number so I can check my IPL and see what pitch it is.

Boring that 5.7L/350 chebby in your burb will give you 5.3 more cubic inches (87 more CC, or .087 liters more displacement). A stock 350 actually about 351.8ci, and a .030" overbored one is about 357.3ci. It'd go from 5.7L to about 5.787L. Don't go over .030" on the chebby rebuild unless the cylinders need to go farther to clean up (and in that case you'd be money ahead to just buy another block or a crate engine anyways). I've seen guys go .060" or more over. No need for that when blocks are plentiful. You start getting into cylinder stability and ring sealing issues once you go much over .040" on those engines.

Yeah, we're hoping we don't need much to get it going good when it needs the rebuild. Hopefully .020" or less overbore will work. If .030" is necessary, then we'll do it. Any more where we need to buy a block, screw it. We'll build a 454 up instead... :)

do you have someone that can do it on the cheap? $100+ for a boring with everyone around here, including a kart mod guy in savannah. none of them would guarantee it would be true when they were done.

Working on Macs for the most part seems pretty simple. Havnt come across too many things that were real hard to do. However replacing clutch springs suck LOL. That is the biggest PIA of all the things I have done so far. Even swapping pistons have been easy compared to the clutch spring. With that done, I am now waiting on a carb kit and I might have Super 250 #2 running:msp_thumbsup:.

Well, if it's 100 bucks around here, #### it. I'll look for a good cylinder and piston... maybe kart parts, so I can swap cylinder heads?

I probably could scrape a good deal up if I was given the chance. Seems like I'm always a tad too late to the show. :bang:
