For cylinders without a removable head, 100$ is about average. The too I have had done cost about 95$ each. Removable heads are cheaper.

Well, I hate to say this, but if that's the cost, the cylinder would have to wait until I got a job. :bang:

Can't win everything... so I guess if my measurements show unfailingly that it needs to be bored, then it's gonna wait.

I know my parents would be pissed if I pulled 100 bucks from my CU account.

yea. even without that threat, i think your best bet is to hold off until you find the right piston and rings. btdt by the way, so don't feel like the lone ranger.

Well, if it's 100 bucks around here, #### it. I'll look for a good cylinder and piston... maybe kart parts, so I can swap cylinder heads?

I probably could scrape a good deal up if I was given the chance. Seems like I'm always a tad too late to the show. :bang:

kart parts = $. been looking into that as well....

Todays pick up, not uncommon, but in really nice shape

Should be a runner

Chris

Not to shabby Chris, Looks like it sat
around more than it got used.
Good luck with the ole girl.

Well then, dremel time baby!

Did it tonight and it works great on the manual oilier so the auto should be no problemo. I am going to start it tomorrow and see that it is oiling while running:rock:

Nice score Chris. Put a bit more grime on it and crack the AF cover and it'll look just like my 250. The 200 I picked up looks like your 250 there, except it has a black plastic fan screen, and the cluch cover has a bit broken out of it in front of the clutch drum. You're going to want to replace the rubber plug/grommet thing in the carb box. Everybody needs a McCulloch 250 in the collection.:D

Well guys, I checked the part # on the sprocket/drum assembly and it's 52878... my IPL does not have that part # on it... so no idea what pitch chain is supposed to be used with it.

I remeasured everything and all measurements are pointing to .030" overbore. So boring out this cylinder and finding a .030" piston with/without rings or a different cylinder/piston combo is necessary.

I have a line on some rings, they're a hair larger than what I need, but since ring end gaps can be adjusted, the rings can be used.

Kart parts are a possibility... if some other guy doesn't get the deal before I do...

Patience, Kyle. Patience. Ron

Thanks Ron. Patience is a virtue that I still am working on building up.

I want to thank you again for the 850... I got her out and fired her up, tuned her, and made some noodles and chips.

Unfortunately, I'm running out of chunks of poplar to cut for fun...

Gotta get my dad to order a load of logs, but first, we gotta get my mom on board with that idea of having a pile of logs dropped in our front yard...

Just how bad do you want one? Seems this came up before, I musta drifted off somewheres, yeah, I'm sure I did. Whatever we were talking about, 250 wise, if you remember, PM me.

I vaguely remember that we were chatting about one... I think I may still have one of the PM's we were talking yellow in... I'll dig around.

Can I get mine Super, to go please?

Neither did I, until I was twice your age...:jester:

'Zactly...

And there you go. The McCulloch 250 (non super) is almost as common as a 10-10. Not too terribly hard to find one. I've noticed that they have a habit of arriving when you're not looking for 'em...:ices_rofl:

Super to go, I love it... :)

Some will get something before others... me, it might be a beating... :jester:

You, I dunno, is there a really big yellow saw you don't have yet, like the 895? You will probably have one of those before I will get my paws on one...

----------------------------------------------------
RandyMac, I don't know what happened to our conversation about the 250... I will dig through some emails and figure out if that's where we talked..

RandyMac: I digged through both the PM box and the email box, and did not find anything. Oh well, we'll have to babble about the 250 soon...

----------------------------------------------------
Almost forgot something... my dad and I were talking a little this morning about my saws... and he says "You got a Small Mac(610) a Big Mac(850) and then a Mega Mac(790) on the way..." :)

Mac guide bar compatibility

OK guys I have read many posts by the new guys on Where to find guide bars for the old McCullochs. We're talking about The large frame series 200 thru 790, 795,797's. Also 1-40 thru 1-7X direct drive models only.
All of these saws use 3/8" studs and, I believe mount the same distance forward of the PTO shaft.
I read a post by Mac guru Al Smith, many years ago, which claimed you can use large mount Jonsereds bars on these macs. Now, I know he's correct. I bought a Carlton Hard nose from Bailey's that was listed for Jonney Red 910,920,930's. It fits right up with a little slop at the bar stud slot, Jonneys are metric and the mac is 3/8".
Also the big old Homies look to be a good fit. I bought this old zip or 7-19 or someting (no nametag) cause it had this nice looking 30" Oregon roller nose bar on it. So I lost interest in working on that old homie but I checked the bar fit up on my new-to-me 790, whala ferfect fit. I even didn't have to the modify the chain length.
So here's a couple fo pics:

The top bar is a NOS 30" Jonney Red lable, but looks a lot like a windsor as shown below.

The top bar is from a XL series homie, can't remember which one. I sold the saw head, and kept the good parts, the bar and chain.

This saw is a donar of a 42" bar that mounts up to the large frame macs. Will put it to good use this summer.

Next installment, the small mount Macs.

Edit, trying to embed pics Grrrrrrr.

Nice info dieselsmoke. Good to know
that the Jonny bars will work. It was common
practice back in the day to swap Homelite bars
onto Mac's and vice versa.
