No 1 fix is to always leave the saw with the tank dry...
No 2 fix is to carefully wrap the saw in a black plastic garbage bag and leave it on the curb for the recycler.
Or you can keep it around for the Brother in Law ( one that you really dislike).

or you can send me the culprit... it is welcome to leak oil over here... :givebeer:

I basically have the saw stripped down to the engine. I am cleaning it and will refill the tank and let it set over night and see where the oil is coming from before I remove the tank. It has the correct bar and such as I have used the saw and it worked great.

In the end it really needed to be degunked so this is not such a bad thing to do so far. THanks for the input so far. I did not see any oil in the carb area at all. Will double check it though.
It's probably leaking around the tank seal somewhere, but you'll see that now. When I did mine I can't remember if I used black RTV type sealer or the pliable non-hardening Permatex (probably the RTV), but anyway it does not leak at all now. There were a lot of parts to take off to get there, but I did not find it all that hard to do. You should probably replace the oil line while you're in there though, unless it looks like it's recently been done.

A purchase made some time ago arrived today. She pulled 150lbs in three pulls before I grew leery of pulling again, #3 about jerked my arm out of socket and the saw moved a considerable amount, even with my foot through the stirrup!
The cover is broken near the plug.

Muffler cover is not broken.

The starter cover was broken off, all that remained was the screws and a small portion if the starter housing. This was another starter I had ready for the saw.

She is dirty, but in relatively good condition. Seller said it was his grandfathers favorite saw....mine too!

Gas tank was pure brown looking syrup, this saw hasn't run in probably 10-15 years, can't wait to get her cleaned up and running.:msp_razz:

Nice 125 Watson.
I'm sure it will run again with some tlc.
With brown syrup in the fuel tank, It
probably hasn't run in more like 30 years.
That gunk is a pain to clean. Good luck.

Got a stupid question for you Mac guys, will a 610 cylinder interchange with a 10-10 cylinder? I know the piston would have to change also and I've got a good 610 block and a scored 10-10 saw. TIA......

No, no, no, in front of the carb box. Where the oiler is. Yes, degunking these is a good idea, they do not seem to take heat well.

PIG SOOOEEEEYY!! no the 10-10 will not interchange with the 610.

Guys, I'm not the kind of person that will get frustrated at a task and start swearing and then kick stuff across the shop floor. But today I found another breaking point, I've got an excellent running Mac 35 that I broke the starter cord on and I'm going to bed tonight whipped. I'll take advice if you got it and try another day. I've used too many four letter words and I think i lost some wrenches out the shop window.

I have not cleaned the saw since I got it so taking it mostly apart was a good thing. I think it might be two pounds lighter now:clap:not that it will actaully feel lighter though. It had never been cleaned.

Will the oil pump on top somehow leak down the side on these just sitting? The tank on the bottom was coated in oil but it would be since it is at the lowest point anyway.

I have the saw sitting on a clean paper towl on my tool box and will check it tomorrow carefully lifting it up to see if it leaks over night. The tank is about half full.

I bet I have two hours into cleaning this thing up tonight:dizzy: Horizontal engines clearly love to hold the grime in.

I have not replaced gaskets on the oil pump. I have had it apart though before to look at it. The aircleaner box was dry of oil.

Also with this new sticky thread is there a way around having to go through so many steps to get to what we used to be able to just scroll down to and click the end page in one step:dizzy:

Now I click to Brad's sticky.
Then Mac
Then end page in Mac thread and then scroll.

Before scroll down and click end page of thread and I was there:confused:

Best way to do it right now is to click "settings" at the top right of the page, then look at your subscribed threads list. You'll see about 30 or so of your subscribed threads listed there. If you see the McCulloch thread in the list, just click the box to the right of it that has the last page number of the thread (707 for the McCulloch thread right now). If you don't see the McCulloch thread in that list, it's because it has fallen far enough down the list that it's beyond that 30 or so in the index. Click "view all subscribed threads" and you'll most likely see the McCulloch thread. Bit of a pain in the ass.....

Halfway there man, just click on the blue box on the left side of the thread in settings, and it will take ya to the first post you haven't read yet (most of the time - nothing's perfect on here)

I actually just have the settings/user cp page bookmarked and go straight there when I go onto AS.

The "new posts" button comes in handy at times too, it shows the latest posts in all the different forums. Sometimes stuff ya like gets posted in a forum you don't normally visit, and this is an easier way to find it.

Complaints should be sent to Brad Snelling, I don't have any, still using the email thing. Works for me.
BTW way Steve, will have most of what you need for that little saw.

In addition to what Steve said, only the threads you are subscribed that have had a post made to them since your last visit will show up in the CP. If it is not there, no one has made a post to it. But, if you click on View All Subscribed Threads, it will be there.

More good projects Shane. We TOLD you that you'd get the bug bad and would end up with a garage full of old saws!:jester:

I really like my PM-700 and SP-81. My SP-81 has a full wrap like that. Seemes to be common on the 82cc McCullochs out west. I don't know how common they were on the later 82cc saws like your PM800.
