*sigh*

Hello fellas, I got another McCulloch given to me. It is a Pro Mac 700 and I got it to run, but I need a carb kit for it. Do you guys know which carb it is. I got on acres internet and did a search with the walbro part number they had and it came up 0 results. I am pretty anxious to get this ole girl runnin. One last question, what is the max bar length you would run on this one. I would like to find an ole McCulloch sprocket nose to put on it. It only has a 16" bar on it now.

There's a small chance that it's a Zama C2. Will have "Zama" stamped on it. Most likely it's a Walbeo SDC. Should have "Walbro" or "McCulloch".....and "SDC" stamped on it. The SDC will take a K10-SDC kit. Available anywhere.

I run a 24" sprocket tip on mine. It's a good match. You could run a 28" sprocket tip if you feel the need. A 20"-24" bar is the best match in my opinion. D176 Oregon bars (which fit 10-series Macs plus medium frame older Poulans and Echos) are still being made. Windsor TMX bars can still be found. Plenty of NOS and used McCulloch branded Windsor and Oregon bars still around too. The old Oregon mount for these saws was D276.

I know sp125 parts are hard to come by. Just wondering what folks think a reasonable price is for one of these plastic "sawdust guards"?

Yeppers. Had them listed for a few months. I was hoping he would relist 'em for MUCH less. Last I saw, he still had some NOS hardnoses from the same era. Also spendy. I'll send you the links when I'm back on the home computer.

Here are a couple of the seller's completed McCulloch bar listings. He had more RN bars (including at least one 10-series RN bar), but the "complete listings" search on feebay is much more limited now, and doesn't go back far enough to find them. A person could dig through the seller's feedback list to find the remaining bars if they were so inclined.:

I got some grief a while ago for stating that 24" McCulloch sprocket nose 10-series bars weren't hard to find. NOT talking about the 'universal' bars with the adaptors, which CAN still be used without any real issue. Talking about 'genuine' McCulloch branded Windsor TMX mount bars here. A quick completed listings search fo "McCulloch bar" (to find the RN bars I linked to in my last post) found THIS seller, who currently has THIS bar and chain set for sale. A decent price considering everything, and something I probably shouldn't list publically as I want to buy one when I'm able. However, since I WON'T be able to do so for a LONG time...................here it is.:D

Holy smokes, these hard nose bars are high!

I just got a 24" and a 28" for about $45 shipped together!

Sure would HELP if the daffy seller would list the item(s) in the correct category .. :bang:

NEW VINTAGE MCCULLOCH CHAINSAW MC 45 KART FLATBACK CARBURETOR 48890B | eBay

Be aware that this is a KART application carburetor, and it has no choke or primer. A fellow would have to prime the saw for cold starts with a shot of mix down the throat (like the Kart guys did). Also doesn't have an AF stud. That makes it most suitable for a top-tank (1-76, 790, 797, etc) McCulloch. The throttle arm looks VERY good for setting the saw up with non-governor type throttle linkage. Bend your own with a 'Z' bend in the end. That throttle arm is also replaceable with the removal of the slotted head screw (like a Tillotson HL). Unlike the chainsaw flatbacks, the swedged/non-removable arm is on the LEFT side of the carb. It's on the right on chainsaw flatbacks. Bet you could easily put an HL arm on this saw if the one that's there now wouldn't suit you.

In the seller's pic, you can see the groove/passage cast into the mounting flange that allows flatbacks to be used on either front tank or top tank McCullochs without adaptor plates. Zoom in to see it. I mentioned this in my earlier McCulloch top-tank and front-tank chainsaw carburetor interchange "dissertation"...:D

Hey, look over there, a unicorn :hmm3grin2orange:

Would you guys happen to know a source for a 24" bar to fit a MAC 380?

There might be a little dust on the saw, but don't let it fool you...

Pulled out my 650 today. I haven't hardly looked at it since I bought it a year or so ago. Pulled the air filter and found out that it has the tillotson HL carb with choke. I did a compression check and found that it has just a little over 160psi. I'm happy with that number. I pulled the clutch cover and painted a mark on the clutch drum and sprocket to use as a reference while figuring out what gearcase ration I have. Turns out that I have a 2:1 reduction. The sprocket is an 8 tooth 1/2" pitch. I have a 32" mac hardnose bar with a brand new mac 1/2" chain to go on it. The only thing wrong with the saw that I know of is the broken wrap handlebar.

It sounds like the negative pressure vent has failed. It may be easier to get another cap.

There's a 'duckbill valve' inside the cap. I don't know if the McCulloch duckbills are available anymore. The Homelite duckbills are being reproduced by Stens and Oregon. Not sure if they can be used in the McCulloch 10-series caps. I know they're not the right size for the large frame Mac caps (but I'm going to try to make that work). You can use a Homelite Super XL cap on the 10-series saws if you have to (but it don't look right) if you NEED to cut right now. I've done that before.

Would you guys happen to know a source for a 24" bar to fit a MAC 380?

There are a few used and NOS 24" large frame McCulloch bars on feebay right now. I have an 'extra' 24" bar and loop of .404 chain, but it is tenatively spoken for already as part of a trade. I'll let you know if the other guy backs out.

Anybody like this paint scheme? (BTW, the yellow is much better in person... the flash makes it look pale... think JD yellow...)

790airfiltercoverstage2.jpg

I'm starting to think satin black with the same yellow lettering/pinstriping... I feel all warm and fuzzy inside when I look at the colors... two of the best colors anyone could ever look at...

Note, it is not perfect... but you know what, neither is the surface of the air filter cover. Sure, I could've sanded and sanded and sanded to get rid of the old engravings of #1 and the scratched out 3 and brought the cover to a welding instructor at CC to get those two right side grates welded back together and that chip fixed... but it loses character. Plus it's just too much work to do all that... :D
