Hoss. Spikes like that were used mainly on bucking saws, I used an 895 with similar spikes.
Does your saw has any added stampings or etchings, maybe an SR in a circle?

Well as I said it is still dirty and the only part I have seen clearly is on the block where it says MC70 on one side and 298 on the other. Once I start cleaning it up I will look for any other markings. Aside from the SR in a circle is there anything else to look for?

Yep, you will know it if you see it.:D

That one is a real looker, Bob!

Thanks for sharing, mate!

(Got any Jonsered 1020s?)

I have one Ted. It is a good goer but at present under the bench waiting to be cleaned up. Same with the PM1000. Still looking for Partner version though.

Thanks to you and E, the cylinder is off. The piston is shot. Interesting enough there are still machine marks on the intake but the exhaust side was smoked. I'm betting one tank maybe two went through the saw. The last one I'm betting was missing oil. The cylinder was marked with a "B" on it. The bearings looked good but are rough spinning. Once again, I'm thinking this was from sitting for so long. It looks great under all the dirt and junk that it was covered with.

You're welcome Scott. Damage like you're describing (scored ex side of piston.......perfect intake side) often happens with a lean-out. Could have been caused by a leaking intake boot. I suggest you replace the boot when you rebuild the saw.

Excepting the one currently at auction, these are the cheapest I have seen: McCULLOCH CHAINSAW SUPER PRO 81 800 805 850 PISTON NEW BOX1008 | eBay

Ron

That's probably about a good a deal as he's going to find Ron.

With the kartsaw essentially done, I pulled out the 440 I got a while back that wasn't oiling right. I pulled the tank, but in the course of that, noticed that the clutch was loose. I got a lump in my throat and pulled it off. Now it looks like I get to take it way more apart than I had anticipated.

Darn, I thought this one would be done tonight. Oh well... Loosely put it back together so I don't lose any parts until I can find a crank. Shame, too. It's clean as a whistle inside.

Hit that with a mig welder and reshape it with a small grinder....aka dremel. Got nothing to lose. You are going to scrap the crank anyway.

Is that common to have a key way break out like that:bang:

Unfortunately yes. Especially the kart cranks. Blown out 91 and 101 cranks are everywhere. Probably why the later ones didn't have 'em.

No welder here, but that's a thought...

warm the clutch hub up a bit and tighten her down good.
I would try running it. Lots of cranks had no keys at all.

If anyone has a Partner P100 Super pulled down i would dearly luv to see a few pics internally of the Super piston and cylinder to compare with the P100.

What is the value of a clean one? The guy says it runs but needs a starter cord....its local and is within 6 miles of my house.
