Overtrained, you will need a cover bracket from a 10 series that uses a formed filter like you have. The stud is a few more millimeters toward the tank. With that bracket, you can use the styled cover like you have, or the squared off version from later models. Since you have cut the filter, it won't do it's job anymore! The needles need to be swapped out for shorter ones. Of course you need to adjust the carb with the filter off, but it's not that bad. Just tune a little lean, and when the filter is put back on, it'll richen right up. The alternative is to use the late model tank top and filter cover that uses the flat, square filter. The bracket you have is for that set up.

On the taller air box lid, there is a spacer under the screw that is not there on the short lid.

Here is the air filter. I outlined it with a marker where it is creased. You can see that it is clearanced for the choke linkage and choke valve

Dennis, I'll send you the tank, air box lid, and idle screw. You can heat the lids and peel off the labels so you can keep your 2-10 label if you like.

Nice joey, that explains alot. I may need to do something about the carb adjusting screws being to long, they are going to snag filter.

If you don't have any to replace it with, you could just cut them off and then cut another slot into it.
