Nice little saws, gotta get me a yellow gear drive.

:dizzy:
I'm glad to see a lot of those 10 series saws survived. I have a couple of them, not that good looking, but I'm still out looking for a few more.

No, the nut is not connected to the sprocket. You'll have to stop the crankshaft.

Yeah, on a direct drive, that'd be all I'd need to do. On this, the crank is 2 shafts away through the clutch. Only way to mechanically run the output shaft against the piston is to have the clutch locked. Need about 2400rpm for that... Maybe I should call in Red Green.

No, Randy, I don't have a service manual for these. If you could scan that or even the part about the gearbox, I'd be much obliged to you.

I tried for a couple of minutes to get that nut loose, no luck so far. The cordless impact is at the jobsite in the gang-box .

Oh well, I'll fiddle with it some more tonight, but may have to wait until tomorrow.

Put the chain on and make it real snug, you should be able to get the nut loose then, or wait for the impact. I have had success simply stopping the sprocket with a screw driver and turning the nut.

Keep in mind that it is a right hand thread...

Thanks Mark. I checked the threads on the new one before I started. Tried the tight chain thing, no worky. I may try the jammed screwdriver... I didn't want to as I'm reluctant to try brute force, I 've had bad luck with that.

I'll play with it tonight. I gotta go sit on the tractor some more before I can get back to the play project.

1-82 good news/bad news

Got the sprocket off. This method worked great. Let the ChannelLocks bear against the bar studs and apply a little pressure. Nothing to it.

Turns out, my shaft is laser straight... wait, that doesn't sound right:jester:.

So now I have a complete spare plus a case gasket...

What was messed up was this cobbled together sprocket. This probably explains why this thing has 9/16" chain on it. Looks very much like an in-the-field repair.

Ssssssooooooo, now what to do?

Was a 9/16 sprocket ever available for these? I have a nice loop of chain I'd like to continue to use. If not, guess I'll break down and call Discount Marine and switch it over to .404 .

A picture WITH a part number... love it! Thanks.

And a seven tooth vs. a six. Even better. Now I can forget about calling Madsens to see if they'd make me a 12 pin:yoyo:.

Calling all Mac Gurus

Here are some pics of a 33 Super my neighbor has and I'm tryin to buy. ? is What's it worth. Not sure if it runs and I noticed its missing part of the emblem and that unfortunately all I know about it at this point.

CPR - The 9/16" sprockets are less common, but they are around if you search diligently. It may even be possible to get one from Discount Marine, they have other sprockets (made) for the McCulloch gear drive saws. If I can remember tomorrow night I'll see if I have a good used one, I might be willing to trade for your buggered one as I think the only 9/16" chain is on a non runner 47.

Vinnie - The Super 33 is less common and pretty cool for it's day with the "full wrap" bars and all...still there were lots and lots of those saw produced so they are not all that rare. Depending on what you have in mind, I'd start with $35 and let your imagination take it from there.

I thought about it after I posted it and went back and thought I had deleted the message but it went through anyway. Probably the impact is the way to go. That's how I take lawnmower blades off and it seems so effortless.

You're welcome to it Mark. You'll have to true it somehow to use it, but based on your skills and facilities, I'm certain you could manage.

hi to all the mcculloch men hope you are all well, i have a small problem with our cp125 backfiring about every 30 seconds whilst cutting at full revs. we had a lot of issues with spark and earths on the saw when we first aquired it from the rubbish tip. after removing some dodgy looking home repairs the saw ran fine. now it has this backfire going on that thats loud enough to scare a pilot at 30,000 feet! any help or tips would be much appreciated
 aaron
