CKelp........you see this? It'd look great on your 1-61. I've been telling myself to NOT ask for it for a couple days now. A test of will power. My 650 is telling me to pay for the shipping.:D

Bar tightening

My Dad always told me when tightening a bar on a chain saw to hold up on the bar with your finger tips at the end of the bar to take all of the slack out of the bar mount, that way you you can really pull on a saw in wood and the bar won't (can't) loosen up. Do others here do that or is it just an old wives tale? I know this is not Mac specific but I would like to know.

Your dad was obviously an intellegent man, look at his offspring...

If you don't believe it, adjust the chain tension where you would like it to be with the bar sagging, then lift the nose and watch the chain go slack.

I make a habit of doing this whenever I put a saw together, in many cases the torque on the wrench when tightening the bar nuts will tip the saw forward and help hold the tip up. If not, I hold the bar with my right hand and use my left hand/forearm to apply the torque to the ratchet.

I always get the tension close, then hold the saw in the air with my left hand with the bar tip resting on the ground or work bench. I then make the final tweak with a screwdriver and snug up the bar nuts.

That's the way I do it. It makes sense so you don't have to over tighten the bar nuts and the chains stays tighter longer.

I'm not that much of a he-man anymore and a bar is a lot lighter than a power head!

Excellent start there MMM, now add some big gear drives, more 10 Series, and perhaps another Super or two.
