The Model 15 was an early attempt by McCulloch to get into the consumer saw business. Basically a 1-43 type power head in a very simple frame with a top mounted fuel and oil tank and rigid construction.

As Randymac has noted, this type of saw can make your blood foam.

The Mac 15 comes up on e-bay all the time, not a particularly desireable saw except for the collector value.

An early version of the mini mac cheap and as Mark said targeted at the home market .... it was introduction to the Mac range of saws and the very first saw i ever worked on and my first repair at the McCulloch factory in Sydney 30 sumthin years ago ... shake the blood right back up your arms .... well what else would you expect at the price that was asked

Where's OT? He is turning people on to those MM saws. That's who mark was referring to!

Maybe one of them little #####es extracted their revenge. Poor guy never saw it coming.

Or maybe he has started a cult. 16" bars and over are banned forever from the sacred cutting grounds. Free koolaid, but they never made a good yellow flavor, did they?

I bought a mac 10-10 automatic today of cl for $100. It only has one issue; the fuel cap leaks. Is the fuel cap suppose to have a o-ring on it?

It may be the valve in the cap. I remember MarkH doing a write up on here about several styles of caps and repair options. You might could do a search and find it. I'll try also.

35a

Bob - I have a 33, Super 33, 35, 35A, 35 Bow, 35A "dynamite drill" with auger bit, 35 with ice auger, and a 35 brush cutter as well as one rough old LeSabre.

Now i just have to have a 35 powered angle grinder. Set on aside for me and I'll pick it up next time I am down under.

And now one of the later style caps with the brass inserts. These are my favorite to work of as they are just so simple to repair. Grab with the pliers, twist and pull (notice that these brass inserts have already been in and out a time or two), replace the old duck bill valve with the new one, and you're finished. If the spring is damaged or destroyed in the process, I have been successful stacking 3 pieces of #0 o-ring over the nipple to take the place of the spring. I can't say if they are calibrated the same as the spring to "pop off" if the tank pressure is excessive, but for my purposes it works.

Notice two o-rings in the hole and one stuck to the duck bill valve

And finally my least favorite, I have a hard time getting the plastic insert out of the cap without damaging it, as you can see.

However, just drop in the Homelite duck bill valve, install the spring, and press it back together and you are finished.

There are several other styles of fuel caps found on 10 Series saws, but I have not figured out yet how to get them apart to make repairs.

Mark

Mine is the style with the brass retainer and it is missing it:mad:

I have a couple of NOS McCulloch's but they're not saws so I guess that doesn't count...

Bad news is the second one was rather roughed up in shipping and Rich won't do anything about it. Guess I know which one I will run and which one will be tucked away to be kept NOS.

Mark

Very very nice Mark envious really how much damage did the second one suffer ?

Scrapes, scratches, and a small dent in the flywheel cover. Really a shame as this was NIB, opened up by Wayne Sutton on video, then wasn't properly packed again before sending it out.

I received a somewhat poorly packed Mac in a box today too...

Had some crunched up paper and plastic stuffed on top, but other than that this is how I found it when I opened the box. Luckily, I din't pay NOS Twin Cyl McCulloch Fantasticness (is that a word?) money for it. Condition doesn't appear any worse than what I saw in the pics (and how it was described) before it was shipped. Nothing broken. No way to tell if anything got scuffed (LOL).

This will be built into a runner to present to a certain 'Mostly Retired' logger at a future GTG. Have yet to pull the muffler and carb and look at the P/C. Hoping for the best, but I'm into it cheap enough that a replacement piston wouldn't put things too far out of line. If the jug is wasted, then it'll sting a bit but still won't derail the project...

Noticed that this saw has a Tillotson HS on it. First one I've seen on an 82cc Mac. The IPL (for a 13 prefix 600439D saw) does show the HS111 as one of the carbs used. Looks to need new AV buffers, a handlebar, a bottom plate, a flywheel cover/starter assembly (I have a 10-series spare that may work with some cleanup), muffler cover, chainbrake lever/pivot bolt/spring, and a cylinder shield. Not sure what else yet. Clutch cover may possibly have a 'repair' in the area of the tensioner screw (as they often do)......or it may just be really damn dirty. Will dig into and clean it soon. This one's gonna take some soking to clean up.

Aaron make a list of what you need and i'll send it out mon. since it's going to such an old and distinguished member:hmm3grin2orange:
