that's pretty nasty but it will look lots better once it is cleaned up.:msp_thumbup: most of my saws look like that when i first get them, then i just give them a good cleaning with some simple green. what do you guys use to clean all of those parts?

Simple green is good stuff. The crap on this saw comes right off with compressed air and then you just wipe it down quick with a clean rag and some carb cleaner to dry out any leftover oil residue.

I found in a dumpster with the wrong chain jammed on in so in I went to find all the pieces bought a new bar a 2 chains fueled it up and it ran good then one day it wouldn't start now if will start then die all I did was new fuel lines and filter I don't have patients for macs . I took the mini apart and that fuel line held air with no leaks ill have to mess with it more it looks like you put a lot of effort into it

You ever rebuild the carb? When the fuel filters deteriorate(3200series) the crud ends up in the carb. Don't take much to get em bent outta shape and acting stupid.

That carb on the mini is pitted a bit on the inside, if all else fails try a carb swap. I got tired of breaking it down so now it's your turn. I have much better luck with the plastic saws, always have common fixable issues.

Never rebuilt the carb maybe some other generous people on here have some mini Macs they can send my way

My 39cc Mac. It started up okay ran for about 2 minutes. I tried it out on a 4x5 peice of firewood and it cut fine for about 10 seconds and stalled. Now it will fire up with the choke on but if you push the choke it dies. If it happens to run past that point, and you hit the throttle it dies like it ran out of gas. It sounds like's it's not getting enough gas. Kind of a bogged down sound is made by the saw when it dies. I'm thinking maybe the carb needs tuned? Hell I don't know. Any ideas? Thanks

you could try turning out the low and high speed screws out about an 1/8 - 1/4 turn if that doesent helpTake a look at the fuel filter and make sure it isnt clogged. or it will probably need a carb kit and cleaning. hope that helps.:msp_biggrin:

Is the gas mix fresh that you are using? Def sounds like a lean condition.

Still trying to figure out how you guys have the issues that you do. All three of the McCullochs I had ran perfectly out of the box. The electric Eager Beaver was great until I sold it. The Eager Beaver 2.0 was great until my 4th stepfather got drunk and decided to straight gas it. My 3214 also ran great despite it liking to rip my finger nails.

Age kills everything my friend, even more so on neglected saws. Fuel lines rot, seals dry out, carburetors gum up and diaphrams and gaskets dry up rendering them useless. The list goes on. :dizzy:

It's fresh. I'll try to find a repair/maintainence manual some where. As soon as I get the damn thing running normally I'm dumping it for 50.00 to break even pretty. And be done with it.

ps Last but not least thank you for the pointers. I hope to get her done over the weekend.

no

I'm just being facetious :yoyo: No harm meant. Up late again doing paperwork. I took a minute or two to poke my head out and see if the world was still here.
