Nice aquistion. My 4000 has the chain brake.

I know this goes without saying, however you are probably going to want to do a muffler mod. We left ours stock, and always felt it was being held back a bit and over time a small split occurred in the bottom/side part of the muffler, on the bar side.

Once we noticed the small split we promptly added some holes on the same side just above the clutch cover and of course noticed an improvement to the saws performance.

Brad, that cleaned up good. That compression might be a little low, my 4000 if I remeber right was up near 160. The 3700 was also.

Those 3400's were the one's that didnt carry that much on the gauge.

I just got a 24" bar for my 4000 to try out soon. I'm sure it will have no problems with it.

What was your squish? Mine was about .050 with the gasket. Does yours have the thing rings? Like I was trying to explain, the end gap locating pin fills the entire ring groove instead of just the top half. Therefore the gap has to be significantly larger to allow room for the pin and gap on both sides of it.

Squish? I don't know, I didn't take a perfectly good running saw apart! LOL

Yes mine is a thin ring. Ok I did pull the muffler to check that much out when I first received it.

To be honest, this series of saws is not my strongest suit, never had to do major engine repairs to them in many many years, so forgive me if I dont remember all the details.

But yes the locating pins are different then what your probably used to.

 That says it all, doesn't it?

I do:) Brand new ones none the less:) I've been doing similiar since I was a little boy. I used to get in trouble when I was little because I didn't always get things back together back then:)

Yes, I took too long to post and then saw your hint, well done (modding) I am sure.

BTW, I've done a lot more than check the squish and ring end gap. The saw is already ported:clap: It's now turning 13,500. Like I mentioned, I ran out of daylight or I would have had a new video for you guys. I will do a comparison cut or two with the same chipper chain. Then I'll put a chisel chain on it and see how it does.

Suqish is down from about .050 to .033. Compression is up about 10 to 130 on the same guage. I tried another guage and got about 137. I tend to think the latter guage is more accurate. I plan to mill the base about .014, so that should buy me perhaps another 8-10 PSI. I'm actually wondering if this saw isn't even broken in yet and mak actually increase with use.

Just in case, where can I order a new set of rings? PN?

530026003 $5 apiece. The Poulan site will let you put them in the cart, so I'm guessing you can still order them from Poulan or have a local dealer order them.

You thought about that a while didnt you B200Driver?? Im glad it went to a forum member. Now you just have to find some green paint :clap:
