MX2T ratio

50/1? 32/1? ?

I am running 40:1 Mobil 1 MX2T in all the older saws that were originally 16:1 and running 50:1 in all the rest that were originally 32:1, 40:1, etc. Right now I am in the process of conducting a seat-of-the-pants test of premium 93-octane gas in the all the saws versus regular 87-octane. All my saws are older, unmodified saws that run at somewhat lower rpms than newer models, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to find the 87-octane performs better overall in them. Even so, I am attempting to keep an unbiased viewpoint until it is all done.

Back during the late 70's, I had a motorcycle mechanic friend of mine explain to me why he had to rejet the carburation on his 2-stroke road racer when he changed oil/gas mix ratio substantially. He said he kept trying to figure out why he would add more oil to the mix and then go out on the track and have the thing seize up and pitch his ass off. He thought more oil = more lubrication = less seizing. Wrong. He actually went so far as to find some technical engineering papers on the subject and learned, much to his surprise, that the more oil you add to the ratio, the LEANER the mixture gets. Why? Simply put, the oil displaces the gasoline within the mixture. Anyway, the moral to the story here is that different oils have not only different viscosities, but different charactertics within the mix. I would think the newer all-synthetic premium oils like Mobil 1, Klotz, the new Stihl premiums, etc., would all have similar mix characteristics due to their similar application, but I am not an engineer, so like was stated earlier in this thread; better safe than ruin a jug.

I haven't found it locally yet. WHich autozone do you buy it from in Seattle?

I've run it in my 5100 since it was new, anywhere from 32-40. Has anyone else noticed the exhaust smells like burning plastic at times?. I have looked my saw over several times, and there is no melted plastic anywhere. Maybe my carb is a little rich, but the plug is brown on one side, light tan on the other.
