Looks good to me đź‘Ť The round insert you just remove and throw away , then block off the compensating port and drill an 1/16" hole in the upper snorkel to let the fuel diaphram move to rich only

Yes ,even with a brand new clean filter,
there's always some vacuum pulling slightly
the metering diaphragm away from the needle lever. Thus, the intellicarb function makes the
mixture a bit lean at best .

Disabling the intellicarb automatically means
that the air filter should be cleaned or replaced
regularly.

And Ive had many a customer
tell me that their 170/180 has never run better ! Maybe slightly more fuel consumption but no big deal

Well ,I can tell you that since "uncorking" the air intake, disabling the intellicarb ,adjusting upwards -ever so slightly-the metering lever
and opening the muffler to around 100%
of exhaust port ,I have one MS170 2-mix
( strato) that has no problem whatsoever
to burry a whole 16" bar into (still standing)
dead ,bone -dry wild chestnuts .
With a standard kerf ( 0.050" / 1.3mm )
3/8" lp chain .
I really doubt that there is another 30cc
homeowner saw on the market that can
unleash that kind of power ,once someone
tickles a bit with it .

Regarding the MS180 :it's power output
from the tiny 31.8 cc engine is rather phenomenal. As with the MS170 ,
this is after few mods ,which "unlock" the
"surpressed" power ,while canceling the guarantee,of course. But totally worth it.

I agree as I am blown away at how well these saws respond to being opened up.
I run plenty of oil but thats just me. Im Stihl silver but no Stihl expert . Of the subject but i had an uncorked ms250 with stock porting that wo a bar
would turn 16k ,,, just crazy

I think its a fair guess that
these modded 180's make about 2.5 hp

The last three years ,I'm on a mission to kill the
modded MS170 of mine.
I 've done everything that one shouldn't
be doing with a tiny ,homeowner grade ,
"toy" of a chainsaw .Repeatedly.
Felling 20" or more bone dry trees ,
bucking them ,noodling them ,cutting
more firewood ,taking it along to my work for
brush and bush clearing ,throwing it or letting it
fall (ok,over fallen branches and foliage ) and
generally abusing it in more than a few ways.

Well ...
I can surely tell you this :

For a homeowner with 10 acres of woods that always has blown down trees , these
170/180 saws are more than adequate

Well ,if a 16" bar (or even a 18" one)
is used quite often, then another possible
mod will be the replacement of the stock oiler
with a "High Volume " one .

SN stock oiler 0.55 : 1123-640-3200
SN HV oiler 0.65 : 1123-640-3201

The HV oiler is the stock oiler of the
025 / MS250 / MS251 saws .
Fits perfectly on the MS170/180 models.

Bar / chain oil flow rate* :
-7.3 ml/min ( 0.25 oz/min ) @10,000 rpm
for the Std 0.55 oiler ( -3200)
and
- 8 ml/min ( 0.27 oz/min ) @10,000 rpm
for the HV 0.65 oiler ( -3201)

* For MS170 & MS180

It's a bit tricky procedure ,
but it can be done with a M5 bolt and
couple of M5 nuts.

Do you think a slightly thinner
oil would also increase the volume

I have both saws and have run that setup just fine.
The more I use the 211 bar and slightly larger chain , the more I truely love how it transforms the saw into a totally different animal
