Funny how he dislikes Stihl so much, but hes there enough to see another saw mis-assembled.

Heck, I think "Stihl whipping" just his current fetish... Another time, another place, or another forum (please god, say it will soon be so..) it will be another brand. As Jeff so rightfully points out, sap's feeding off our energy. Pity he's such an arse (yes, it is a word in the UK and ex-colonies).

Wow, I didn't think my question would start a chain reaction like this. I dropped the saw off at the dealer this morning. I explained what was wrong & they said they would take a look at it. I sure hope they cover any problems - I'm getting nervous now. Anyhow, I'll be sure to let everyone know what happens. I just started cutting my own firewood & have bought two new saws from this dealer within the last 6 months (the MS310 & MS180). If they don't cover the probelm, I will be a little upset, but I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt.
So, what happened Sappy?

Are you asking me college boy? How the f*** would I know?

Besides, It's only been a few weeks....you can't expect his Stihl dealer to have gotten around to him that soon. Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!

To answer your questions; No, Im not in the military, the bmcd part is the initials of myself, wife & 2 boys. However, I salute your service to our country !! The saw was still under warranty, and I actually picked it up today. They put a new oil pump on it - no questions were asked, they just said "here you go, it's all set". I already have all my firewood cut for this winter, so the saw won't see much more use until next spring. I think I may actually buy an new MS440 in the spring. I have some large Maples that I left alone this year because the 18" bar on my MS310 wasn't big enough. I already have a new MS180 for limbs, so if I add a 440 with a 24" bar to my collection, I should be all set. I've read nothing but good things about the MS440. Is there anything in paticular I should know about? Is a 24" bar a good choice ?? Thanks !!

Glad to see it worked out good for ya..

See. I'm wrong sometimes.

But this hardly makes up for the 10 previous posts by individuals who had less than stellar service from their local Stihl dealer.

I've finally figured out how Stihl keeps that low 1% warranty return rate. They browbeat the customer into paying for it themselves the other 99% of the time. Hahahahahahaha!

Why dont you start a thread on how good your Husky dealer is..
Now that is an excellent idea Ultra! Instead of all of the pi$$ing and moaning about how Stihl sucks (we GET it already!!) - tell us something positive about ANYTHING!

Bmcdjohnson, I don't believe anyone has welcomed you to the site - Welcome to the site!

I am glad your warranty work was in your favor.

Try to avoid the sappy naysayers, and you will pick up quite a bit of good information.

MS440 is a fine saw, and should run a 24 inch bar with no problems.

Enjoy!

Glad you're 310 is back online. It should continue to serve you quite well for a long time. You could put a 24" bar and run a full skip chain on it for the occasional times you need that much bar.

...but...If you really are thinking about getting a 440 you likely will not 'rest' until you've done it. With the 310 so new you could probably trade up plus some cash or sell it in the fall and get nearly all your money back and then just move on over to the 440.

I suspect that once you have a 440 w/ 24" bar the 310 isn't going to see much use anyway. Thier weight is just too close and the 440 will do everything better.

But...the 310 can serve you well for a long time if you'll get your mind off the 440...good luck to ya' cause I couldn't do it!

Well Sap I did something yesterday that may make up for those other 10 posts you speak of. I got on the phone yesterday on behalf of one of my customers and got him a brand new cylinder and piston and gaskets for a unit not 1 year old, not 2 years old, not 3 years old, not 4 years old, not 5 years old but for a unit SIX YEARS OLD. Now tell me Sap how many dealers or compainies is going to do that for a unit 4 years out of warranty?? None that I know of. I can give you countless other instances of getting things done when the warranty has long run out. Can you name me one instance any other company has gone 4 years past the warranty period and still stepped in and said we'll take care of it, especailly in the small engine field, if you can please share. Topping that after I told my customer Stihl will cover the parts I told him I'll will do the labor for FREE. Hows that for a warranty and customer service, hmmm. Team Stihl doesn't have a line through it like I know you think it does, it has a line under it with a big ! at the end of it thanks to yours truely and many more...........

Unfortunately for Stihl (and their customers) you are the exception, not the rule.

But you know that already...or you should.

Yup, Sap knows this--all it takes is one dealer and one saw to know what the majority of dealers are like. :monkey:

Do you ever read the complaints that people post on this forum regarding Stihl? .....or do your eyes just glass over, roll up in your head, and pass over those posts? Because if you bother checking, Stihl by far receives the most complaints around here (and thats leaving me out of the equation).

Denial ......it ain't just a river in Egypt.
