MS400c a couple questions

I've been reading about the 400 and some people say it needs and upgraded oiler for longer bars, some say it's fine. If the main bar would be a 20" with a 25 only being used occasionally, is a stock oiler sufficient? I've also read that the 461 HO oiler is a pretty popular replacement. Does a pump from any other model fit?

For a 25" IMO the stock oiler is inadequate. 044R,440R, 046R,460R,461R oilers all fit.

A 20" bar ? Yes, the stock oiler is fine.

A 25" bar ? No.

Especially if you cut harder wood and are using most of the bar length.

Anyone that tells you otherwise hasn't actually done it, my crew uses one on big removals fairly regularly with a wrap handle and a 25" or 28" bar, the saw is ported so it has the balls for those lengths.

You would want the pump out of a 461 R.

Or you can buy the guts out of the pump and save some money, it's money well spent no matter how you do it if you actually plan on using your saw.

With the HO oiler the limiting factor isn't the oiler it's the saw. My 400C will run a 28" bar in western softwoods all day. I can't imagine wanting to run much more than a 20" in hardwoods.

I haven't run more than a 20"on mine with the stock oiler. It is turned to max . Use about 3/4 tank of oil to a tank of fuel. Cutting hardwood.

You could run a 36" on it with the pump from a 461R.
