I'm pretty certian 440 and 460 use different part numbers, the 460s will be mismatched on a 440 and will fit, but the chain catcher holes wont line up

MY MISTAKE NUMBERS I GIVE ARE FOR 460

NUMBERS FOR OUTSIDE SPIKE FOR 440 & 460 ARE DIFFERENT
440 OUTSIDE SPIKE IS 1122-664-0501
460 OUTSIDE SPIKE IS 1128-664-0501

Brad I know we didn't get to talk much at the GTG but if I had known you were looking you could have checked out my MS460 (or did you??) it's a west coast saw with the dual spikes 3\4 handle and magnum clutch cover. I really like the package, now that I've had it it just seems like my 044 is missing something not having it. Still up in the air about the wrap handle I have a 1/2 wrap and change between the two all the time (can't decide)

I did notice your saw with the 3/4 wrap and all. I'm going to stick with a 1/2 wrap on the 460 for stumping and will put a full wrap on my 045. It it weren't for stumping, I'd have a 3/4 on my 460. Nice setup there.

I run a Pro Safety full wrap handle from Bailey's on my 460. For my needs it works best and offers the best balance. It also has a built in chain catcher. It also has PS dogs from Bauley's.

I got the dual dogs and chain catcher on. It's way easier to stump with now.

I decided to clean it up a little while I was at it. I disassembled the starter and ran it through the dishwasher. I did not repaint it. The orange plasic was pretty rough on it. I sanded it with fine wet/dry paper and clear coated it with clear enamel. It honestly looks almost new. We'll see how it holds up. Installed a new model plate while I was at it. I've got the Magnum sticker for the filter cover ordered. The bar cover I sprayed with Stihl grey, baked in the oven at 225F, resprayed, baked, blacked the letters with a marker, clear coated, and finally baked again. I installed a set of 441 bar studs and put it back together. I should have taken some before pics. I know, I need to spray the aluminum on the handle now.

I also took a shot of my muffler cover. There are no baffles inside and the factory port on the side is opened up as well. She is a runner.

Those are little dawgs. I guess if many want them I'll quit throwing them away. The side cover is hard too get used too.

The plastic is a lot harder than you think. If you have scratches that are very deep, you'll likely want to go all the way down to 220 grit to get them out. I was surprised. I don't think you need to go any finer than 600 grit. You will find that it takes 2-3 coats to cover the fibers of the fabric. Just don't do like me and drop it before it fully tacks I had to wait for it to dry so that I could sand it back smooth. I let them set in the house several days before reinstalling and it'll be a while before I cut with it again. The enamel should be good and hard by then. Reguardless, it looks better than it did.

If you call Madsen's and ask for a "big dog kit" you will get a new inner and outer dog... the ceramic roller chain catcher, and the mounting hardware.

They are black, and are not Stihl parts. 044/440 or 046/460... they got 'em.

Yes the short side cover looks funky I thought they all had tall ones but of course I also thought all pro Stihls came with wrap handles and dual dawgs also.
Its a PNW thing mang as Gary would say.

do the madsens spikes allow the saw to sit flat like the factory full wrap spikes..or does the saw sit lopsided like with the Bailey's Pro Safety spikes?

Sorry for resurecting an old thread but it's the best I found with a search for chain catcher for my ms660. I did a lot of clean up this weekend on my horse farm and 2 others after a tropical storm came directly through this area Thursday. My saw performed flawlessly except for a thrown chain twice due to small limbs and vines. Lucky my saw did not get damaged but I would like to add a chain catcher for future peace of mind. My IPL shows part #s
1122 650 7700 - Chain Catcher AUS,NZ
1122 656 6600 - Sleeve AUS,NZ
9214 320 0700 - Locknut M5 AUS,NZ
Are these the correct parts?

We used several different 046 / ms460 and 066 / ms 660's when I worked logging but none of them had a chain catcher so I've got a question. It looks easy enough to fabricate one but I need to know what material the sleeve is made of? We use a lot of Teflon plastic stock where I work. Would this make a good sleeve?

All othe part numbers are posted above in post # 31. Are you sure your saw doesn't have a chain catcher? They all come from the factory with at least the curved aluminum piece.

It probably did until the first chain derailed.
