I have been reading this post for a bit and it seems that everyone has helped out Sherie very well . In my local Granger they do not sell to the general public you must have a business on know someone who will let you use there buisness name. at least that is how it works an mt local store. if you re a little ingenious and make up a business name and a business card that is all they need to set up an account pay cash and you could probably get away with it . i might be wrong but i do not want to see her go to the showroom and get turned away .hope you get your splitter running well soon

Same thing at mine. I work for a city and one day I seen them turn away an old guy. I thought he was going to cry. I would have let him use the city account and paid cash but I would have gotten fired. I felt bad.

You did fine - Any air still in there will work it's way out by extending & retracting the cly to it's limits a few times. Here's a few pics. of my Didier, it started out the same as yours, but kind of did a "transformers" thing over the years.

One good thing was getting it up waist high, but then you need a log lift, so then a bigger tank.

The 'woodcatcher' grate on the front is one of the easiest, cheapest, labor saving things you can add.

Mike, your Didier looks like it has been on steroids! Can we see closer pictures of your mods?

(sorry, I missed the posts re: Grainger) We have a friend who is in business and buys parts there all the time so (hopefully) I won't have a problem.

Good deal I just did not want to see you travel a good distance and waste time then be told you cannot buy the parts because you do not have a busyness

Sorry about that. I'm just so accustomed to strolling into Grainger and grabbing what I need. I forgot about their policy of only selling to commercial customers.

Shari, the ram on your splitter is the original, the 2 steel plates you asked about? There is a gap a little over 1" between the wedge & the ram [when it's all the way out]. Someone probably put those two plates in there as shims to close up that 1" space. Some stringy wood just won't split clean. A few more pics. There's a 2" ram under the loglift.

Then there's this deal -

I took the front jack apart a few years ago, replaced it with a minibike wheel, hydraulic motor & valve. Made the splitter 'self-propelled' The wheel pivots with the removeable tiller arm. Sure beats pushing/pulling it, as sometimes you only want to move it a few feet, and who bothers hooking it up to a truck or tractor for that? One thing I have to get a pic. of is the end of the ram on mine. The cast ball snapped off mine some years ago. Later with that. And that Lovejoy? You may have to replace the whole unit if you can't match that 30 year old spider up? I can't imagine they've changed that much though?

The spider is an LO75 Lovejoy Coupler Insert.
You can order them from Grainger. They offer them in Buna, Hytrel, and Polyureathane. For a 5HP motor use the Buna. For 6hp+ use the poly or hytrel.

I got an original part number from another list member but when speaking to Grainger they went by Lovejoy L075. I ordered it in Buna from Grainger this morning. In case any other member is interested, Grainger's part number is 2X814 and the link is here: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ww...h_type=xrefmodel&action=Go!&QueryString=2x814
