I have a question I havejust taken apart my Stihl ms500i for inspection and through cleaning and have come to this problem there are two scratches or chips on my cylinder do you thing is it worth sanding out and putting an aftermarket pistion in it to get a little life out of it I can feel them with my fingers .The saw ran normally and had really good compression didn't notice any difference I ran husky xp oil in it.
Thank you for your answers in advance

respect that you take off the cylinder for no apparent reason because it does not happen to me
Hey thanks man you are awesome
I have taken the cylinder off because I am going to clean the saw really god In the parts washer. I can get new OEM cylinder and piston for 280€ what do you suggest.

I would not go into the costs without necessity / I had much more damage without replacement, which still works and is historic
Then I will order an aftermarket piston and polish the scratches as best es possible and run the saw I can still order the OEM kit if necessary, thank you for the help

If you want to deviate away from dealers Husky xp oil (high price)...

Btw dont buy stihl ultra....its sh....oil ;)

You can also buy oils on mimovrste :) Motul 710.....Elf moto 2tech....Shell advance ultra can be had for less then 15euros/L

Motornaolja.com has also cheap Mobil1 2t racing....

Is that missing cylinder plating or aluminum transfer from the piston?

All transfer MUST be removed from the cylinder before reassembly. There are plenty of threads on here how to do it... without acid since you are right next to a port.
