I had a NOS 4200 once that I never ran, kept it NOS and sold it. If they sound anything like a 5200 (Im sure they do), it is some of the best music that can come out of a 2 stroke engine.

Yep, In my opinion they sound just like a 5200. :msp_tongue:

Gregg,

Gregg that's a great video for the obvious reasons (Poulan muscle, big wood, sharp chain, etc), but it's also a great teaching aid. A person can really hear the saw transitioning back and forth between 'four stroking' and running 'clean' as it's loaded and unloaded at wide open throttle. Very clear transitions. Tuned just right IMHO. A while ago some folks were asking about how to distinguish the 'four stroking' sound that we describe when telling people how to tune a saw. This video of yours makes it easy to understand, and is what I'll tell people to watch so that they 'get it'..

My new 'baby'. Scored this gem from my tractor dealer for a song. This was the first saw I remember my father having. I"m going to restore it all up for him. 4200 Countervibe

Can someone post a pic of the anchor loop of the 306 type recoil spring?

I tried using one without the sheet metal cover and the anchor end of the spring jumped off the peg. It's all distorted now and I can't tell how it went. I really don't want to tear off the 202's flywheel for the upteenth time.

Thanks fellas!

Carl.

Here ya go!!!

Well if you F'ed it up good let me know. I know I have another recoil housing here if you need it. Dont take that poor 202 apart again., :msp_wink:

Eh, sometimes you have to sell to buy more. Nothing in particular Im after. I wouldnt mind finding another 5200 and a 5.2 to go along with the Dayton one of these days.

If any 5200 etc come through me I will give you a shout. I'm not into these even though they run stout. Just different strokes for different folks.
Heck I passed on a trade on 2 8500 and now I cant locate the guy for others to check to see if still available. No biggie to me but it might be to others.

As of right now I wont be to poulan gtg to evening time. Have football game I have to go to Sat. I have to show if at all possible because I have a saw to deliver to a new owner. :msp_wink:

I will when I get one good 306A made out of the two junkers I collected. And then, will put new rings in him and likely a paint job. For now he is ready to go out to Albert's farm for a good test. Outside chance his comp. will come up from the 125 he pumps now.

Ok, since my memory ain't the greatest, I went out and took a few pics of the ign. & flywheels on my 203 & 306's. There was some talk of differences a couple pages back.

This first one is my 203

This is another 306A I'm guessing slightly newer, still points though.

Gregg,

Kinda interesting to note, that both with the ND ign. are the older (yellowish green) and those with the Wico ign. are the newer (lime green).

Also, as Mark noted, the 203 has the round fuel cap, and slightly different pull cord handle, and no Ign. switch on the back. Something else that is a little different. Seems the older ones have what appears to be a dipped on handle treatment, as opposed to the later ones with a slip on rubber cover.

Gregg,

Sorry bud, I ment the other end, where it anchors on the housing pin. I'm going to try and bend this one back in shape.

I'll be OK...........................................................going to see my new grandson:clap:. Little turkey was four days late.

How about these?

We can arrange that! If I dont get it to loosen up first, I might want to leave it at home. Dont want that saw getting a bad rap, and from what Ive heard- they are pretty darned tight out of the box. Im sure you all will help get it broken in.

Yeah, after that wild thing crack I think I would leave it home too.

Marks an alright guy for sure, but he better be bringing me a wild thing- Ill hold him to it haha. I might even let him throw some chips with the 550.

I just had the 550 in some wood, and if someone wants to bring a faster saw they better dig hard! Stock for stock, fastest 50cc saw Ive ran but the 261 is close (this feels like a much smaller saw though). I dont know if I am going to port and reweld the muffler before the GTG or not. If so, I will probably get it done this Wed.

We got a deal! In return, what would you like me to keep on the lookout on your end. Jonered/ Poulans? If so, I can... Hope to see ya there. I dont know how long we are going to stay, probably will be there around 10 or so.
