On page 233 of Barnacle Parp's Chainsaw Guide 1977, "Saw Chain Conversion Chart", it lists the following saws as Poulan's:
P10,P22, P25,P27,P52,P72,P100,P101. In the Pioneer column, There are no PXX's. I have a Pioneer P28E with a manufacture date of 1981 on a sticker.
Can anyone make sense of this for me?
Larry

You have a Pioneer saw not a Poulan. I would not take to much of the info in that book to heart by the looks.

This is what I was think of, concerning black top 5200's. Doesn't get much better than this pair!! I thought Mark had a couple of these.

Gregg,

The half wrap on the right is the one running in the video.

Gary, My 5200, I believe was setup and used as a bow saw, before I got it. Was in rough looking shape, and had the clutch cover & edge of the crank case cut, to accept a bow. Didn't have any bar on it when I got it though. Mine came from Ga, so likely to have a bow.

Gregg,

My 4000 (which I will bring Saturday) came to me with a clutch cover for a bow but with a bar on it. Fighting to get a couple of saws going, cleaned up a 3400 I got earlier in the year but can't get it to pop. Got my red Craftsman 3.7 to go a bit but when I checked the fuel line in the tank in was broken off. :msp_mad:

Kostas, yes the 5200 top ends are getting harder to come by, no doubt about it. There are some still out there to be found. I bought a 5200 from Rik in WA State that had a tree fall on for parts and it had a very good top end on it. So keep your eyes peeled.

I now have a 8500 to restore, got it with a bad top end and found a parts saw on ebay with a good top end on it. Much to the disscussion on here about the 8500 piston being differnet, it seems I have found that to be false. Seems because the part numbers were different the thought was the piston was. I did find out that later Poulan changed the 5200 piston part number to the same as the 5400/8500.

I will be getting on this restore after the Poulan GTG when I get some time. I had thoughts of getting it done before the GTG but didnt want to rush it.

Aww quit the bellyaching and get it done. A 10 minute job on a fuel line. :hmm3grin2orange:

Looking forward to seeing you again.

As for me I'm working today on the Speigel 223 to see if it can make it to the gtg. Been working on cleaning up 40 years of junk off of it. :frown: I forgot the early 200 series used a different FW side crank seal. I know I bought a spare for the 252 a while back, now I just got to find where I put it. :bang:

True, If you have the parts. You know offhand what size line it takes? My only option now may be the "Hobby Lobby", I found out late one night when I was working on my 5200 that they stock fuel lines for RC planes.
