You have no idea the amount of packages that they move in a day. I think there overall rate of damage is really pretty good. If you wanted them to be perfect, you would then squawk about paying even more for there serivices.

The ones needing to show some more pride are the shippers. You CAN NOT leave a bare bar laying loose in a box to cut though it like a knife.

I have shipped plenty of saws with bars and have never had one damaged or a bar lost. I guess I take pride in packing one up right.

I have worked in a warehouse for the last 3 years straight and have countless times seen thousands and thousands of dollars of things shipped in $5 worth of packaging and yes there the ones that always arrive here damaged.

I have received a few saws and without a doubt your packing was the best.

I used to work with people in a huge warehouse and saw first hand the "pride" they took in their work. They would destroy items deliberately just for fun or because they were mad at their boss, etc. Several of the fellows I worked with are now working for the Post Office, do you think they suddenly started taking more pride in their work?
When I worked at the warehouse and saw a box starting to break or spill parts out we carried packing tape and put the material back in the box and taped it up, I was just saying that it wouldn't kill the shipper to do that.
I do agree with you that things need to be packed well, I wouldn't expect a chainsaw would fare too well shipped in a grocery sack or something like that, there's responsibility on both sides.

Just received a HUsky 346XP and the bar was sticking halfway out of the box. Very poor packing. Worse was the fact there were two pieces broken off the crankcase and the P&C were somewhat scored. Thist wasn't disclosed to me by the seller. My first Ebay purchase that is going south. Have to wait to see what seller says.

Sorry to hear that Bob, I been pretty lucky so far. Only have had one saw arrive that was substantially worse than was described. That was my PP 380. Paid $60 for it, so it wasn't a major hit. But, put a lot more than into it, to make it decent runner.

There is currently a ratty looking 372xp I been watching. Kinda been wanting a project 372 to fix up and use. But I think it would be a never ending money pit, to get fixed up well. As bad as it looks on the outside, can't imagine what horrors its hiding on the inside.:msp_scared: Guess I'll just keep using my good old reliable Poulans for a while. And the price keeps going up.

I wish I had taken pics of the first saw I bought on eBay. It was a shinny 360. They shipped it in a huge box with the bar off and one piece of foam in the box. It played pinball the whole way here. My 3800 craftsman was packaged almost the same way with a bar and chain that didn't fit the saw, even though they were on it in the pics on eBay.

Keep the pics coming! I'm so anal retentive when I ship a saw it could have made it through a nuclear holocost for the survivors to cut up all the downed trees. Any of you ever seen a distribution center for a shipper in action? It's wild.

When I was much younger, I worked in (what was then) a 'modern' hub for a major shipper that commonly uses brown trucks in their fleet. We were on the last shift of the day, so we had to often clean up messes left by previous crews. Do you have any idea how many of those little dental floss 'cubes' can fit in a 30x30x30 inch box? Can you imagine the mess when two of those 'explode' 30' above the floor because of conveyor belt traffic jams? Those were easy compared to all the crap we had to deal with when there was some sort of liquid/chemical issue. Granted, the percentage of mishaps was small, but a heckuva lot more care could have been taken.

When shipping a complete saw, I usually wrap the bar as if I'm shipping it alone. It seems to have a harder time 'punching its way out' when I do that.

The piston measures 38.55mm. Sorry about that.

Me too, surround it with cardboard , lay it flat on the bottom. a little packing material under the saw, bag the saw, surround the saw with packing. I try to use double thick cardboard boxes when shipping saws.

Here's a few I have. All are the same except I'm not sure the cman and the green 2300 cva saw have a chrome bore. I can check. So pp180 and 2300cva are the same.

Thats Great! Tim, LOL I'm not ashamed to say that I too am fascinated by the sound of the old Poulans. Little Elliot might have a different view if he were to hear some of them in person..like ModifiedMark's 71A

Yea, Gregg there is a fine line between buying a saw and how much to put into it. This Husky cost me $200. I'm trying to get $100 refunded so I can pick up a crankcase. Time will tell so long as I don't get frustrated.

Scott, I found three Craftsman model numbers for what appears to be a Poulan 2300CVA. These are from the Craftsman OM:

So as the story usually goes I am getting hooked up with a saw through a friend who has a friend who has a saw...

He says its for cheap (less than $50) and but it "needs some work" -- sigh.

It is a Poulan Pro 375.

Anyone have anything good or bad to say about them? Appears to be limited information from my googling. From the picture its wearing a 20" sprocket nose B&C. 61cc? I have had some experience with a Super 380, but this looks to be a bit different.

Any comments/anecdotes are welcome. Just wondering if its worth my time.

And since it is a project saw I might be rooting around for some parts...

It's a slightly dressed up Poulan Pro version of a 3700 with a 4000 style air filter and cover which is an improvement. Well liked saw on here. Depends on what parts it needs whether available or not.

Last week's gatherings....

Picked up 10 saws (in one form or another) last week, here are the ones germane to the Poulan folks. Snagged the 32" bar at the same time. This came from the same pawn shop where I picked up a Craftsman 3.7 a couple of weeks ago.

Picked up several saws at the WKY GTG. First up is the early 306 I pictured a few pages back.

Snagged this 5200 with a scored piston.

Got a bottom end for a 5200 as well.

And lastly the S25DA and the Micro XXV.

Not a bad week at all.
