you guys are having way too much fun....:D Hey help me be the first guy to get my feedback score off of zero....I don't have a clue but at 63 years old and a little gimpy I hate being a zero...if anyone can do it the Poulan guys can...

Stephen, I think that feedback thing, has something to do with selling stuff on AS's classifieds. Kinda like Ebay feedback.:)

Gregg,

Runs like NOS too!!!

We had a great day here in windy NW Indiana!
Ressurected and muffler modded a $100.00 (like new) 6400 Dolmar for me, a little top handle Homelite that had Super3 stumped for a WHILE, finished up a 2100 Husky for ModifiedMark, and worked over the throttle linkage on a Disston 2 man saw for cbfarmall.
Gassed and ran the new 8500 that Mark just restored, ran a SL7 Remington belonging to cbfarmall and the 71A that Mark finished up last night just after I got here.
Great food, a few beers, LOTS of chainsaw talk........the things great weekends are made of!

Gregg,

What is the story on that?

Why did poulan get away from building the bigger saws?

Was it due to E-lux wanting to push the market share of bigger Huskys I wonder.

That all depends on who you get your information from!
The timeline pretty much proves to me that Elux bought Poulan for the things Poulan had on the drawing board, the EXTENSIVE dealer network (especially in the southeast) and to use as a prostitute to keep the Husqvarna name off the "homeowner" saws.
Whatever the reason, it was a great move on their part.
The Poulan name kept the lights turned on and the payroll met and the Husqvarna side got the glory and kept the shareholders happy.

Finally, and I mean finally I think I got the 71-A all figured out. Runs real good now.

I thought I had it good for the Poulan GTG and it did run good with the straight bar, but not so good with the bow.

I finally got a original needle lever spring for the carb and found I had a problem with the fuel filter not hitting the front of the tank when used upright.

Seems good to go. After this was done we advanced the timing on it some more and it sound even snappier. Will give it one more run tomorrow.

Sounds like the same thing that happened when they bought up Partner. Those 5000 5500/325 etc was way ahead of their time too IMO.

Yeah alot the same but Partner got screwed worse. I mean they were demoted to consumer saws for Europe like Poulan was in North America, but they didnt even really got to make there own consumer saws. Elux had Poulan make em for them. :dizzy:

Picked up this one last year with no spark. Was all green, 40cc and from 1991. Well I found this red carcass (not sure what brand) with a good coil and a perfect piston. The red carcass is a 46cc and from 2004. So I took the clutch cover, clutch, recoil, cover, carb, choke lever, etc from that green one and built up this red one. Just need to get a new gas line (don't have any that small) and she should run. It also amazed me how so many different parts can be transferred to so many different model and brands of saws. My Jonsered 2045 is very similar to this Poulan. Guess Electrolux made em all the same back in the day. View attachment 270327View attachment 270328

Looks good...Those are good running saws with the mufflers opened up and a good chain!
Did you swap the turbo/clean air components? I think they should fit on with little or no trouble.

Gregg,

I had said that about Pickers elsewhere, has ruined cheap butts like me from getting signs reasonable to hang up in the barn/shop.

No biggie I can live without for those crazy prices. :msp_biggrin:
