It would be nice to have a stickie embedded under the Poulan stickie for spike, gasket patterns and alternate bearing and seal numbers for the various saws. I was kicking my self after I shipped a bunch of gaskets for the 306 and 4200 to Kostas and did not take any tracings of the gaskets. I keep a list if I see anything come up in a file on my computer. Mark was good enough to post the gaskets up for the 3400 series saws which are very common saws here.
Thanks Mark for doing that. I have started to do that when I get gaskets now or a spike.
The trouble is that all this good work gets lost in a huge stickie that's not easily searched.

No need for this Tim.I was planning to make some patterns for all the gaskets for the 306A.I am waiting the gaskets for the oil tank( oil tank boss, oil tank gasket and pump housing) and when they arrive,i'll be ready to upload them. For the 4200 Mark did the patterns.

Just lay 'em on your flatbed scanner/copier and scan to file. Print the file to 100% size and you have a pattern.

Scan of 306A type dust seal.

1/8" thick foam filter material.

So far the only saws I have bearing and seal info for are the 3400-4000 and 25da. Any others?

I'm gonna hit up the homie guys for some info too. I need to get some saws running.

306A / 245A Oiler

Hey guys, I've searched the threads and can't seem to find an answer. The auto oiler on my Dayton - badged 245(S)A has seemed to stop working. I pulled the bar and chain, and no oil was being pumped from the oiler hole. The Manual Pump still works fine. I pulled the clutch and pump cover on a 306A parts saw that I have, just to see what I'm dealing with before tackling my good saw. I'm assuming that the oiler mechanisms are the same. Are they? Parts Interchangable? It looks like the "Off Center" gear rings provide a back and forth motion that see-saws the little metal tab to push the piston in and out. Is that right ? How should I troubleshoot this. Is there any particular usual problem? Where in the circuit is the manual pump?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with my 306A.When i got it,it was oiling like crazy and one day it stoped.I think that parts from 306A are interchangable with the 245.Remove the oil pump cover and check the gear. Then push the little piston with your finger to see if oil comes through the hole.If you see no oil, pull out the piston and check the quad ring.Remember to seal the down bolt because it will leak from there.

For the manual pump you must remove the oil tank to get access but if it is working, then the manual pump is ok.

i've got some that look a lot worse that still run really well. they look pretty light weight to me but could definitely indicate either that there was some carbon induced scratching in the past or that there is a tuning issue that needs to be addressed. wouldn't be a bad idea to pull the jug and take a closer look at both the plug and jug. a look at the rings would tell a lot as well such as, if its carbon or tuning.

thanks its a really clean saw.. you can see where some one scraped the muffler of carbon... it runs pretty good i did have to adjust the low out a tad....new fuel lines and filter .. i would say it needs a carb rebuild i have the kits .... i just really am picky on pistons on saws i pay more for then i normally would...thought i would let ya all tell me what you thought from the pics thanks Paul.....

another shows ring...

this as good i could get my phone to do....

chain saw

Hand tightening sounds like plastic fantastic 3516 to me. Set not too long in his barn, but for 75 bucks.... It can set more...

I could be wrong. It happened once before.

Orange in color with 20" bar throws me off with the hand tightening. He gives a phone # call him if you want to know crowellmachine

I recently picked up a Craftsman 2.0 Powersharp version of a Poulan 2000. It has a hand tightening system where you loosen the bar nut and push a metal lever against the chain adjuster to tighten the chain. It is also a red color some people MIGHT call orange. Doesn't wear a 20 inch bar, though - looks like 16. Wouldn't pay 75 bucks for it, either.

I was thinking it might be a rare canadian or a dayton, If it's a recent model, sorry for looking like an idiot. I pay ZERO attention to saws that aren't of the green family. I gave away a creamsicle s10 earlier this year.

Aaron,
For what it's worth, there is a 20" 3/8-050 70dl replaceable sprocket tip bar (Item 41097 - Laser Forestry Pro) on sale at Cutters Choice for $19.95. It is said to fit large Echo and Poulan saws, so it might work for you.
David

Thanks David. That'll be a D176 type bar meant for the Poulans made after the series that I'm trying to find bars for. It's for sale at a good price however.

I'm looking at the pic of the bar in the sales ad and it dont look like D176 (probably not the bar in pic). I tried looking up the item number on their site and none listed there.

Wonder what they consider big echo mount? Me it is D176

IF I knew for sure these where D176 I would be ordering a bunch to use and set back. Anyone know for sure?
