Very cool!
Agree. First for me!
Very cool!
Bob, take one apart, make sure its all clean, lube the bushing or bearing on the sprocket and flip the clutch springs over and see what happens.
Last years repair of my 3400 now 3800 did not end well with the bar studs spinning in the PTO case. Previous owner put in a crooked helicoil and bolt...not pretty or effective. I ordered a stud repair kit 530030039, but the project stalled. :bang:
I had kept an eye on ebay for not expensive complete cases or the pto side. There seemed to be mostly flywheel halves or too much money....why? is there a trend here with bad bar studs killing these cases?
Well I finally lucked out and got 5 nice complete cases with cranks, 2 green 3 red....$25 for the lot of 5 +14 s/h. All look way WAY nicer than my old original, 2 look almost new.
Don't praise Mark too much, I have intel from a good source that his hat size is already up to a 7 5/8 :jester:.
Listen, it takes a large head hold a large brain.
A good source tells me I'm still waiting on those parts from you.:msp_rolleyes:
This afternoon I added a Poulan Pro 295 FarmHand to the collection. The fellow who sold it is in the tree business, and a customer gave it to him, but he runs all Stihls and had no use for it. I was hoping to meet him, but he was out when I arrived.
The 295 is a little dirty, but appears to be low-hours. I can clearly read PoulanPro FarmHand 20" on the probably original bar and I'd be willing to bet the safety chain is original, only a few minor scratches, and the bar nuts have no rounding. Gas tank is dry, no varnish, doesn't have the nasty old gas smell. Compression seems good, I'll test it with fuel tomorrow.
Once I get the dig cam charged, I'll get some photos posted, & will also take some of the 4620AVHD for comparrison.
Throw a 16" b&c on it, mm it, and you will have a sweet little runner that can hold its own.
While I am not a Poulan afficianado, I do have a PP405 that currently has only 75 lbs compression. It is in the same range (cc-wise) as the 8500, but is from a later era.
Don't believe so. The PP405 is 65cc's whereas the 8500 has to be in the 80cc range. NOt sure of exact size but I know its over 75cc's. Get a ring for the PP405 and check P&C. Surprised it will start at 75cc's.
