Oh you

I just finished painting and looked at the ads. I saw the little red saw and then the green one behind it. No one passed me on the highway on my way there. 20" Windsor bar with spare chain.

It's in pretty good shape although I haven't gone through it. It hasn't run for a few years. The cool angle pipe is missing from the muffler. Compression is right up there.
The little red saw was a Remington Mighty Mite. I would have bought that too but it was in rough shape. Small enough you could almost put it in a back pack
I would say my day ended on a high note.

That saw is a beauty Roger.

Tim ,

That saw wasn't even for sale, you devil. great saw well spotted. Still haven't seen my new Farmsaw, it may have gone away can't raise the party.

Oh Well, I'll let you know what happens.

The ad was there Lee. I didn't see it but noticed the green saw in the backgroud of the picture of the Mighty Mite.

I just clicked on view posters other ads or whatever it says. Brokenbudget did post the link up but I was on my way when he did.
Glad I picked it up. The 5200 and the 4200 that I have are the only large Poulans I've seen come up except for a new looking 505 that was up for $400. It was a beauty but way more than I was willing to pay.

I think you'll like the Farmsaw if you get it I don't run mine much as it is in almost new condition. I came with the manual including the IPL and the brochure that the dealer had of the Pioneers that were selling then. I should scan and post that in the Pioneer Stickie.

Poulan 5400 for sale

Guys, I'm new to this forum, so I hope it is OK to post an item for sale? Poulan 5400 I got about 5 years ago. I knew that guy very well.... said it ran but was hard starting. I can't get it to start, and I just don't have the time for this project. Low compression (35psi) with lube, and the cylinder is scoured, see pic. Has spark . Lots of scratches, but it's all there. Huge 29 or 30 inch bar and chain. Includes a water damaged (wrinkled) owner's manual.

I got way too many irons in the fire so I'm a motivated seller. First reasonable offer takes it. You pay shipping from Winston-Salem N.C. Probably 2 boxes because of the bar. I'm honest. No returns. As is.

Thanks,
Chip

Glad you got that saw, Tim. And 180psi, too! Good for you!

I'm sure you are right, I found it lurking behind the little red Remington which is still for sale. Does that explain the ref to thanks Steve (Brokenbudget) in the remaining ad?
Folk don't always remove the ad after a sale. I've paid for a Homelite but not picked it up yet, and the ad is still on Kijiji much to my annoyance.

Well done you, looks like a great saw. There don't seem to be many around our neck of the woods.

25da

I just picked up a freebie 2.3/16 craftsman saw. I was checking it out and wondered if the bottom half is the same as an s25cva. This is a decent little craftsman that ill probably use for a runner, but I wand av. Just thought maybe someone knew off the top of their head. Thanks guys.

Just checked the S25DA and S25-CVA IPL's.

Crankcases are the same. Lower gas tank and botom plate ("cylinder shroud") are the same. Gas tank top (which extends forward towards the front of the saw) is different for the two saws. The CVA has a special carb box, wrap handle, and rear handle (with brackets and AV buffers). AF/carb covers are different, as are the clutch covers. Most everything else below the tank top is the same (ignition, cylinder, engine internals) between CVA and non-CVA saws of like vintage and style (meaning both with the same type of ignition, displacement, etc).

That's what I was coming up with also..... Sweet. Thank a ton.

Replacement Bar Studs:3400, 3799, 3800 etc....

Last years repair of my 3400 now 3800 did not end well with the bar studs spinning in the PTO case. Previous owner put in a crooked helicoil and bolt...not pretty or effective. I ordered a stud repair kit 530030039, but the project stalled. :bang:

I had kept an eye on ebay for not expensive complete cases or the pto side. There seemed to be mostly flywheel halves or too much money....why? is there a trend here with bad bar studs killing these cases?

Well I finally lucked out and got 5 nice complete cases with cranks, 2 green 3 red....$25 for the lot of 5 +14 s/h.
All look way WAY nicer than my old original, 2 look almost new. :blob2:

Sweet.... You bought them huh? I was eyeballing them too. Prices go up and down on eBay. I sell a pile of stuff on there to make some grocery money and I've seen crazy deals and sold things for crazy amounts (high and low). You made out great with those cases. They aren't high dollar items, but you bought one and got 4 free. :)

5200 No Spark

Any ideas for a good source for an ignition module or coil for a 5200? Have searched threads but didn't find a real answer.

Thanks to Mark and Mike and all of you contributers for all the information on this site, very helpful, just need a bit more!

Good buy there! Was only about a week earlier than when he listed those, I bought a like new gray 3400 case from him. The one I used to make a 4000 for a friend of mine. Think I paid $10-12 for it. I saw those, and would have been all over them at that price. :msp_thumbup:

Seems to me there was a mix of "early style" cases and later ones in that group. As far as the bar stud problems with these goes. I have quite a few of this series, and have never had or seen a problem with them. It sure isn't an inherent problem with them, as far as I know.

Gregg,

cases3400 3700 3800

Thanks Greg
Well I will stay confused if there is not some chronic problem on the pto side. The cases have casting date codes on them of 81, 82, and 83....my original 3400 dead case is the only 84 date code. Though I can't yet visually detect any difference that might differentiate early/late.
2 of the 5 have minimally perceptible main bearing play, one more is even worse, but not even close to how bad my original 3400 saw was.
