Well I will stay confused if there is not some chronic problem on the pto side. The cases have casting date codes on them of 81, 82, and 83....my original 3400 dead case is the only 84 date code. Though I can't yet visually detect any difference that might differentiate early/late.
2 of the 5 have minimally perceptible main bearing play, one more is even worse, but not even close to how bad my original 3400 saw was.

Dave,
I couldn't tell ya what year they changed a few things on them, and they are small. Basically, just added webbing, etc. in the castings. Especially around the rear counter-vibe mounts, for the rear handle. Some added to the interior of the cases also. The early ones I have seen, had a different style oil cap, for the bar oil tank.

Gregg,

Thanks Greg

Dave, like Gregg said I know of no reall problems with those bar studs to speak of. Never spinning any thats for sure. I have seen some broken off by some ham fisted mechanics or what ever you want to call them.

Very easy fix though and thats why Poulan made that kit with the replacement studs with the hole in the end of them for using a wire to fish the new ones back into the holes.

Pay attention when putting the cases back together and drive the crank brgs in or out to get the crank end play where you want it to be.

Thats the main reason I had that auction in my watch list. That and the electronics.

Guess I'll step back though as they would have just been extras.

Mark
I was looking at them to but I need some other part as well so I will let him have at it.

Now where we going to find those little bows Joe??

It seems to me I've seen one of them at a local shop. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you. Pm me what price you go to and you can have it for whatever I have in it....IF I find one.....

That video made me want one even less...lol

Ha! Might have to custom make those suckers. Never seem one or read about one.

Like I aint got enough to do!

I don't know where you guys are going to find those bows but that little sucker was cutting pretty good. I know I was surprised by that video.

Yep it was getting with it.

Fuel cap problem

I have a Wild Thing brought to me to get going. After the fuel lines were replaced it was running great so i thought i would take it out for a test run and all was well then it started bogging down and died. Figured out the fuel cap will not let any air through. There must be something under the duck bill. Is there a fix for this type cap.

Just seen this, anyone else seen it? Now why do I want one so bad?

Poulan S25 with Bow - YouTube

Yeah, I made the video. Thats SawmanDave at the Halifax County VA heritage festival this past year. Igpoe is the one who organizes this demo and there are usually several of us AS members there sorta like a gtg.
