I did order a meteor and I got it. I checked it before putting it in and found it was way to short from the wrist pin to the piston crown.

I also went to put the oil pump on it and it is hitting on the seal. When I measured the distance from the case to the bearing for depth the bearing must have moved and the measurement I got is bad. Now that the saw is together and the bearings in the right place the depth for the seal is 3.5mm. So I am back on the lookout for a seal that will work again.
That would be 15x35x3.5mm

Hmm, I wonder if I could cut one down in the lathe?

I'm thinking if its a steel cased seal I could......

I heated up the cylinder with a propane torch and took muriatic acid and a Q-tip and applied it to the aluminium transfer on the cylinder walls. Let it set for about 5 minutes and then scrub it with some scotch brite. I did this about 5 times and finally got all the aluminium out of the cylinder and then I took a 320 grit ball hone and did a quick honing to the cylinder to smoothe everything out. Some people just use sand paper for this but I like the ball hones as long as you do not get agressive with them.

Thanks!

here is the picture of the 42064's and the others to compare. View attachment 277085View attachment 277086

Those part numbers get my head spinning but in that first picture, the ones on the right are the later 4400 up ones. The second picture, the one on the left is for the early 4200/5200.

At least thats what my feeble memory is telling me this morning, I will double check this afternoon for sure though,.

I was able to cut the seal all the way to a 5mm thickness but it still to much and the oil pump is hitting on it. If I took the seal down any more it would start grinding on the lip.

Here is a picture of mine when going back together. I'm kinda thinking I got these seals ordered from Poulan at that time.

That is a good picture because I can see that the seal is sitting flush with the case. When I took my saw apart it had the wrong seal in it already so I really did not know what it was suppose to look like. Thanks.

I can't say that I would have traded that way,.........but I fully understand why you did.
I guess you actually got the best end of the deal because you traded 4 $100.00 saws for one $500.00 saw.

Mike

He actually traded for my $111.00 550XP that was new. I was proud enough of the price that I had in the 550 that I told Kevin what I had in it...no secrets here. Kevin got what he wanted and so did I so it all worked out well in the end I guess.

Only difference being I can go to the dealer and get another 550...not the case with the poulans, and you guys have been running these poulan price's up the wall on ebay lol. Gonna cost me a heck of alot more to rebuild my poulan collection than it did 10-12 years ago...:bang:

I just wish that I would've asked about him throwing in the 2100 for my boy...

What sparkplug does everybody run in the 3000,3300,3450 and 330. They call for the CJ4 for the 3000-3300 but my local ace hardware does not carry the cj4 or and champion plug that has the #4 in its description.
