Sure Kevin!

That would be great!

The 346xp is broken in, the 550xp is still on it's first tank, 3450 was just started up by me for the first time. 3450 still had the epa carb stops on it (was just a hair lean for as cold as it was) but a real good runner indeed.

Each saw ran the same stihl rsc chain in 3/8 050 60dl with the bar buried in the cuts.

The 3450 had just a hair less torque felt in the cut. Didnt check rpm's kept in the cut but 3450 is right on the tail of the other 2 tested and alot freaking cheaper to buy. :msp_wink:

And a LOT prettier too!

What sparkplug does everybody run in the 3000,3300,3450 and 330. They call for the CJ4 for the 3000-3300 but my local ace hardware does not carry the cj4 or and champion plug that has the #4 in its description.

I put a 6 in all of those mentioned. My 330 and 365 came with 4's in them.

Mike you want me to fuel up that TA 3450 BB and test out? Getting ready to test the 550 346 back to back with 3/8 16" buried in hard maple.

Get that 325 in the mix also, can you try them with both a 7 and 8 .325 setup?

My 325 has a 7 on it while the 5500 has a 8 and it beat both stock 346NE and 5100's down at Jeremys last spring.

Mark if the 325 becomes mine like it looks like it might. It will be switching over to 3/8 7 just like the last one I had.
I'm just not fond of the slower cutting 325 chain, unless the saw dont have balls to pull 3/8. Try 3/8 on your 325 5500 and dont look back because I know them saws have big balls. ;)

People can say what they want about 325 on a 346 50cc, but tested it myself with witness and the 346 is so much faster with 3/8. Just like most of my 5000 were too.

Well I hear ya, but I'm not racing when I go cutting wood. I like my 50cc saws with .325, its much smoother in small wood and for limbing.

I heard the same stuff from Mike about the 3/8's on the 5100's and when he was here, we done all the testing on them. Yep the 3/8s was faster, by fractions of a second in a 12-16" log.

Soon as he left I went right back to the .325 on the 5100 and never thought of it again.

Really though most of my old saws will rarely ever go to work again and I just like em setup as they were when they were new.

Actually, it was before I left because you handed me the 3/8ths bar and said something about not having any use for that S.O.B.!!!LOL
I actually like the .325 for the smaller stuff also, and I really like running it on the NK bars.

 Yeah now that you mention it, that was the way it went down wasnt it?

Anyway you look at it, the bottom line was I didnt want that 3/8's chain on that smaller saw.

Mark what symptoms was your PP330 showing when the HDA164 went 'bad'? Got my PP330 together today, and it's not running right. I'm going through the 'usual' stuff...........but was wondering if the carb may be the culprit...

Aaron, I might suggest, if you can find one, a HDA137 carb. It only came on the PP380 that I'm aware of. I had an extra at one time that I gave to Mark. I can't recall if he tried it on a PP330 or not. But I think thats another option for ya.

I agree with why you like 325 for limbing and because that is what the saw came with. I fully understand that.

The reason I like 3/8 on the small 3 cube saws that have the balls to pull it. Besides being quicker in the cut is that I deal with firewood cutters bucking hardwoods, we aint worried about limbing etc. If I am limbing I am using a smaller saw then anyways with 3/8LP or 325 too. Mine decision is based on quicker cuts and bucking hardwoods for firewood for the 3/8.

I have firewood guys wanting me to switch their saws from 325 to 3/8 all the time if their saw can handle it I do. None has never ask to go back afterwords either. ;)
